8 Characters With Legendary Ancestors
Description
This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga.
One Piece is Oda’s masterpiece of a story that has been ongoing for over 28 years now, and despite its length, Oda always finds a way to make his story more exciting with every new arc. The new arc, Elbaf, has revealed a lot, such as the true ancestor of Xebec and Blackbeard, but these two aren’t the only ones to be descendants of legends. Other characters, like Vivi or even Zoro, also have very relevant ancestors in One Piece that might be just as important.
Xebec
Descendant of Davy D. Jones
Rocks D. Xebec has been a legendary figure of One Piece for a while now, and fans were eager to learn more about him. Oda delivered just that with Elbaf’s newest flashback. Oda revealed a whole lot about Xebec, but the biggest shock was perhaps the reveal of his real name, Davy D. Xebec.
Fans knew Xebec worshipped the pirate Davy Jones, but they didn’t know they were related. Davy D. Jones remains a huge mystery, but he might have been a pirate on the level of Joy Boy during the Void Century.
Blackbeard
Descendant of Davy D. Jones
Fans came to learn a whole lot more about Blackbeard recently in the One Piece story. Through the Elbaf flashback, fans discovered that he is the son of Rocks D. Xebec. With that, many fans thought his real name was Rocks D. Teach, that is, until more discoveries were made. Rocks turned out not to be a real name. Instead, he is from the Davy D. Family. So just like his father, Blackbeard is a descendant of Davy D. Jones.
Vivi
Descendant of Nerfertari D. Lili
Vivi was a major character in the early One Piece but took a step back when she decided to stay in Arabasta. Nevertheless, she’s relevant once again with the events of Reverie, especially with the huge reveal that Vivi and the Nerfertari are actually Ds. Oda even revealed a legendary ancestor of Vivi, Nerfertari D. Lili, a former Queen of Arabasta. Lili was close to Imu, and her disappearance remains a mystery.
Sanji
Descendant of Sora and Vinsmoke Royalties
Sanji’s background was expanded on during the events of Whole Cake Island, and many were shocked to learn that Sanji wasn’t a random cook but actually a part of the Vinsmoke royal family.
The Vinsmoke family is not as strong right now in the current timeline, but they ruled the North Blue centuries ago. Furthermore, Sanji could also be a descendant of Sora, the warrior of the sea. Sora was probably connected to the Vinsmokes from the Void Century.
Cricket
Descendant of Mont Blanc Noland
Cricket is a character that fans met in Jaya and one that quickly got interesting with the reveal of his ancestor, Mont Blanc Noland. Noland is a legendary figure in One Piece and one who met a tragic end after being accused of lying about the disappearance of the City of Gold.
Wyper
Descendant of Kalgara
Just like Cricket, Skypiea revealed the interesting ancestor of another character, Wyper. Wyper is a Shandian warrior, and as the story progressed, it was revealed that he was a descendant of Kalgara, Noland’s best friend. Kalgara, just like Noland, met a tragic fate in One Piece.
Little Oars Jr
Descendant of Oars
Little Oars Jr. was quite an important character during One Piece’s biggest war so far, the Summit War, which saw the Whitebeard Pirates confront the Navy to save Ace. Little Oars Jr. was definitely an interesting addition, as at that point, fans had met his ancestor in Thriller Bark, Oars. Oars was an ancient giant from hundreds of years ago whose body was used by Moria as the Special Zombie.
Zoro
Descendant of Ryuma
Ryuma is a character that fans have known for a while, but only recently did fans discover his shocking connection to the Straw Hat Pirates’ own swordsman, Roronoa Zoro. Fans always believed Zoro and Ryuma looked similar, and Oda confirmed it when he revealed Zoro’s family tree. The two are connected through the Shimotsuki Family, a heritage Zoro gets from his grandmother, who left Wano around 50 years ago.
