Zenless Zone Zero provides a traditional route for DPS characters while also having a special mechanic called Anomaly. To build up an Anomaly in ZZZ, players simply need to hit an enemy with the Agent’s corresponding attribute until the Anomaly circle next to the foe’s HP is filled up. This will trigger an Anomaly effect, which varies based on which Attribute Anomaly occurs.
While any character can build up and trigger Anomaly, some characters do it far better. Unsurprisingly, these Agents are classified as having Anomaly specialties. Not only do they have various ways to build up Anomaly faster, but they’re also equipped with extra damage bonuses that will make the process worth it. For that, here are all the Anomaly characters in ZZZ, ranked by power.
7
Grace
The OG Anomaly
Rank
S
Attribute
Electric
Faction
Belobog Heavy Industries
Although Grace did her work just fine when ZZZ was first released, her viability drops significantly once more Anomaly Agents are introduced. She’s still a good Shock trigger, but damage-wise, she’s far below the other S-Rank Agents.
To play Grace, you have to use her Basic Attack or Dash Attack to gain Zap stacks (max eight stacks). After having maximum Zap stacks, use Grace’s Special Attack or EX Special Attack to consume them.
6
Piper
Spin To Win
Rank
S
Attribute
Physical
Faction
Sons of Calydon
Although Piper’s damage is not better than Grace’s, she ranks better thanks to her synergy with Lucy. Lucy is a great generalist 4-star support who fits into multiple teams. Thanks to this, Piper is far more F2P-friendly than Grace, making her the better Anomaly option than the S-Rank lady.
Playing Piper is even simpler than using Grace. You only need to hold her EX Special Attack when Piper has energy. The constant spin grants Power stacks, increasing Piper’s Physical Anomaly Buildup Rate. This makes her an excellent Agent to trigger Assault and help create Disorder. If her energy is insufficient, players can still hold her Special Attack for a lower-damage version of the skill.
5
Jane Doe
The Rat Thiren
Rank
S
Attribute
Physical
Faction
Criminal Investigation Special Response Team
Jane Doe brings a new meaning to Anomaly gameplay with her Additional Ability that enables Crit on her Assault Anomaly. This allows Jane to deal far greater damage than the basic Anomaly Agents, Grace and Piper.
When Jane deals damage to an enemy, performs Perfect Dodge, or Defensive Assist, she gains Passion Stream. At max Passion Stream, she enters the Passion state and gains one use of Salchow Jump.
Jane’s Physical Anomaly Buildup Rate is boosted by 25% during Passion state, and dealing damage will consume the Passion Stream. During this time, performing Perfect Dodge or Defensive Assist will still restore Passion Stream. You must hold Basic Attack to activate Salchow Jump, in which Jane will spin rapidly and also restore her special bar.
4
Burnice
Play With Fire
Rank
S
Attribute
Fire
Faction
Sons of Calydon
Burnice is not only adept at triggering Burn, but she can do so while being off-field. She marks the first-ever Anomaly sub-DPS in ZZZ.
Since she can do her damage-dealing with minimum field time, she fits into teams that have Anomaly DPS like Jane, Yanagi, or Miyabi. Her off-field Burn trigger, combined with the aforementioned Agents’ constant Anomaly trigger, will eventually cause Disorder to happen, increasing the team’s overall DPS.
3
Vivian
Phaethon #1 Fan
Rank
S
Attribute
Ether
Faction
Mockingbird
Vivian doesn’t only excel at being a sub-DPS like Burnice, but she also offers extra damage from her Abloom mechanics. Between the two, players would want to interchangeably use them based on the enemy’s weakness.
2
Yanagi
Disorder Master
Rank
S
Attribute
Electric
Faction
Section 6
Despite her kit being more main DPS than sub-DPS, Yanagi is an excellent sub-DPS for Miyabi. This is because Miyabi wants her team to continuously trigger Disorder to give her Fallen Frost stacks, and as of version 2.0, there’s no one better than Yanagi to do this.
Yanagi simply needs to hold her EX Special Attack on an enemy affected by Anomaly debuff. This will immediately trigger Disorder even without Yanagi applying another Anomaly herself. By mixing Yanagi’s EX Special Attack and Ultimate, players can always ensure Miyabi gets her six Fallen Frost stacks as soon as possible.
1
Miyabi
The Youngest Void Hunter
Rank
S
Attribute
Ice (Frost)
Faction
Section 6
As of version 2.1, Miyabi is the strongest Anomaly character in ZZZ. However, this is likely because her gameplay is less Anomaly and more like an Attack Agent. For instance, players would want to build Miyabi with Crit Rate and Crit DMG instead of Anomaly Proficiency.
Using Miyabi’s Fallen Frost stack can be done by holding her Basic Attack, in which she will consume two, four, or six stacks based on how long you’re holding the button. Of course, the six-stack version is the best as it has the best damage and AoE. Here’s how to get Miyabi’s Fallen Frost stacks:
Unleashing EX Special Attack (2 stacks)
Using Ultimate (3 stacks)
Applying Frostburn – Break Anomaly (1 stack)
Any squad member, including Miyabi, triggering Disorder (2 stacks)
