Old concept art from the in-development remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has recently surfaced online, originating from the early days of the remake. Knights of the Old Republic has often been cited as one of the best video games to come from the beloved multimedia sci-fi franchise, with its initial release receiving plenty of accolades. Knights of the Old Republic would receive multiple “game of the year” awards following its debut, and has seen re-releases across several platforms. Now, the in-development remake has seen some new concept art appear.
Knights of the Old Republic‘s remake has seen a rocky and troubled history throughout its development. The remake was first announced in late 2021, with Sony Interactive Entertainment teaming up with developer Aspyr to create the remake of the classic Star Wars game. Knights of the Old Republic saw several early delays, with Aspyr even being removed from the project entirely and replaced with Saber Interactive who worked with Aspyr on the recent Tomb Raider remasters. A new leak is now giving a look at part of Aspyr’s original vision for the remake.
Early Aspyr Knights of the Old Republic Remake Art Leaks Online
As reported by MP1st, a new piece of concept art has recently surfaced from an iconic planet in the remake of Knights of the Old Republic. The art shows a high-definition remade version of the Wookie home planet of Kashyyyk, showing off the dense forests and vegetation surrounding a base on the planet. The artwork was reportedly shared from an earlier vision for the Knights of the Old Republic remake, created by a concept artist who worked at Aspyr until 2021, the same year the remake was originally announced.
The concept art for Knights of the Old Republic comes as the game continues to navigate murky waters in regard to its development. Saber Interactive Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits previously confirmed that the remake of Knights of the Old Republic is still in active development, though little other news has surfaced about the game throughout the year. The remake was originally in development as a PS5 exclusive from Aspyr and Sony, though rumors suggest that the game has since shifted to a multi-platform release.
While fans of Knights of the Old Republic may be waiting a while to see the beloved remake launch, Star Wars fans have seen no shortage of new games. The ongoing Star Wars Jedi series following Jedi Knight Cal Kestis brought both fan and critical acclaim, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor receiving multiple awards and nominations. Respawn Entertainment and EA are also said to currently be working on a third and final Star Wars Jedi game to conclude the story of Cal Kestis. Star Wars fans should have lots to look forward to, even as the Knights of the Old Republic remake navigates development hell.
