Relic Entertainment has revealed that Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Definitive Edition will be released on August 24. This enhanced version of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War was announced in May this year and will be available for PC via Steam and GOG.com.

Released in September 2004 for PCs, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War depicts the dark future of the 41st millennium in which humanity fights an endless war against myriad alien and demonic factions. The game features four playable factions, with gamers able to choose between the iconic Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks. After releasing the base game, Relic Entertainment developed three expansions: Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. Dawn of War 2, one of the most story-rich Warhammer 40K strategy games, came out in 2006, while the third entry was released in 2017. Now, Warhammer 40K fans will take a trip down memory lane with the upcoming release.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War Definitive Edition has had its release date confirmed, and will arrive on August 14. In addition to sharing when the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War remaster will arrive for modern hardware, the developers have revealed that players who own the Anniversary Edition will receive a 30% discount when purchasing the Definitive Edition. The game will cost $29.99 and, according to the developers’ announcement, will not receive any new content or post-launch DLC.

All units in Dawn of War have received texture improvements, becoming more detailed. The game will have an integrated Mod Manager compatible with mods created by the Warhammer 40K community. Additionally, the Definitive Edition of Dawn of War will feature an improved camera, and draw distances have been increased to give players a more cinematic experience.

In addition to the improvements, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War Definitive Edition will include all expansion content, totaling four campaigns and nine complete factions to play, and over 200 maps. Although the industry releases new engaging games every year, it is always a joy to see classic titles getting some love. After all, Dawn of War was the beginning of one of the most beloved series by fans, and resulted in some of the best Warhammer 40K games ever released.
