Description

Mina is a Spirit-based damage dealer in Deadlock who excels at blowing targets up. Her burst damage potential is very high, but players will need to do a lot of work to get the most out of her abilities.

Every hero in Deadlock benefits from having the right builds that complement their skills. This is even more important for glass cannons like Mina, who can get deleted as quickly as she can delete others. The following is a beginner-friendly build for Mina that’s meant to help players ease into playstyle while emphasizing all the points that make her such a powerful hero.

Beginner’s Build for Mina in Deadlock

Deadlock Mina Build

This build aims to be effective and easy for newer players to follow. It uses some of the best items that everyone should get while playing as Mina while also touching on some great situational items that allow for more versatility against certain team comps.

Early Game Items

Best Early Items for Mina in Deadlock

Mystic Burst

Deal bonus Spirit Damage when you deal a set amount of Spirit Damage to a target.

Extra Spirit

Increases your Spirit.

Healing Rite

Use to regenerate health over time. Effect is canceled if you take damage from players or objectives.

Extra Stamina

Gain 1 Stamina and extra Stamina Recovery.

Rapid Rounds

Increaes your fire rate.

Mystic Burst and Rapid Rounds are your best early damage items for Mina. The former increases the damage dealt by Rake and Love Bites, while the latter helps you trigger Love Bites quicker. Extra Spirit further boosts your damage output, but not as much as the other two. Other Weapon Items like Extended Magazine and Headshot Booster are also worth considering.

Healing Rite and Extra Stamina are here to help you survive. Mina is extremely squishy early on, and while she can heal by killing minions with Rake, she doesn’t have anything to sustain herself against poke.

Once you get enough Souls, upgrade them to the following items:

  • Improved Spirit
  • Kinetic Dash
  • Burst Fire
  • Tankbuster

Sell Healing Rite once you get another source of healing.

Mid Game Core Items

Best Mid Game Items for Mina in Deadlock

Tankbuster

Deal bonus Spirit Damage when you deal a set amount of Spirit Damage to a target. Also deals a percentage of the enemy’s max HP as damage, and ignores Spirit Resistance.

Compress Cooldown

Reduces the cooldown of an imbued ability. Imbue to Sanguine Retreat.

Fortitude

Gain bonus health. After not taking damage for 14s, regenerate a percentage of your max HP per second.

Spirit Lifesteal

Dealing Spirit damage heals you.

Enchanter’s Emblem

Gain Spirt Resist and Out-of-Combat Regen. When above 65% health, gain bonus Spirit and Cooldown Reduction

Quicksilver Reload

Imbue to Rake or Sanguine Retreat. Using your imbued ability grants bonus Spirit damage and Fire Rate, and reloads your bullets.

Tankbuster greatly increases Mina’s burst damage with Love Bites, and it is especially useful against tanky heroes like Abrams. This and Quicksilver Reload improves your ability to assassinate targets, provided you can get them low enough for Rake to execute them or for you to finish them off with Mina’s gun. Enchanter’s Emblem will give you a bit more Spirit while improving your CDR together with Compress Cooldown.

Fortitude and Spirit Lifesteal will help you sustain yourself in and out of combat. You still won’t be able to take many hits, but the extra health and lifesteal will help you secure more kills without dying. Get more Vitality items if you find yourself dying a lot.

Consider getting Stamina Mastery for more Stamina, Stamina Recovery, and an extra Air Jump or Air Dash. Keep in mind that Sanguine Retreat resets your Air Jump/Dash counter.

Late Game Items

Best Late Game Items for Mina in Deadlock

Boundless Spirit

Significantly increases Spirit power. Also grants Bonus Health and Out-of-Combat Regen.

Superior/Transcendent Cooldown

Greatly reduces the cooldown of all abilities.

Mercurial Magnum

Imbue to Rake or Sanguine Retreat. Using your imbued ability grants bonus Spirit damage and Fire Rate, and reloads your bullets. Your bullets deal Spirit damage based on your max Spirit until your next reload.

Infuser

Grants Spirit Lifesteal, Spirit Resist, and Health. Use to increase your Spirit Lifesteal and Spirit Power.

Leech

Alternative to Infuser. Passively provides Bullet and Spirit Lifesteal, bonus Health, Weapon Damage, and Spirit Power.

Lightning Scroll

Dealing Spirit Damage slows enemies. Gain bonus Movement Speed and Health. Damage from your ultimate Stuns enemies and deals bonus Spirit Damage after a short duration.

Diviner’s Kevlar

Gain bonus Ability Duration. When you use your ultimate, gain a barrier and bonus Spirit Power.

These are your late-game power sources. They’re functionally the same as the rest of your items but are stronger numbers-wise. Start buying these one buy one after you get a core build going using mid-game items.

Lightning Scroll and Diviner’s Kevlar are excellent items to use if you want to play around Nox Nostra. The latter will keep you alive while boosting your Spirit Power, while the other inflicts a Stun and bonus damage to any enemy hit.

Optional/Situational Items

Deadlock Spirit Burn proc with Mina

These items will add either more damage or survivability to the build, but buying them is either match-up or preference-based:

  • Toxic Bullets: Your bullets build-up a bleed effect on your enemies, dealing max percentage HP over time and reducing their healing received. Procs the same time as Love Bites.
  • Spirit Burn: Dealing enough Spirit damage in a short window of time causes enemies to explode, take damage over time, and receive healing reduction. Requires 500 Spirit Damage on-hit to proc (doable with stacked Love Bite procs or Rake).
  • Cultist Sacrifice: Consume a target NPC to gain bonus Fire Rate, Health, and Ability Range. Also grants bonus Souls when consuming a target.
  • Mystic Vulnerability: Targets take reduced Spirit damage when they take Spirit damage.
  • Escalating Exposure: Targets receive a stacking Spirit Amp that increases the Spirit damage they receive from you.
  • Counter Spell: Your next parry also protects you from abilities and items. A successful parry heals you while increasing your Spirit and movement speed.
  • Cold Front: Use to release an ice blast that deals Spirit damage and slows enemies. Can be used while casting Nox Nostra, and it’s great for aggressive plays with Sanguine Retreat.

Skill Priority and How to Play Mina in Deadlock

Deadlock Mina Skill Priority

Leveling up Mina’s skills isn’t as straightforward compared to some other Deadlock heroes. Her playstyle revolves around triggering Love Bites before going in for the kill with Rake. She depends on both of these abilities equally — after unlocking all her abilities, upgrade Love Bites twice, then either max out Rake first for damage or Sanguine Retreat for survivability.

Nox Nostra, Mina’s ultimate, is a weird one to use. It causes her to fly into the air and unleash swarms of bats that deal damage to anyone they hit. The problem here is that the bats are easily dodged, and each individual bat deals very low damage. To make the most out of this, you can use Sanguine Retreat to get right in an enemy’s face, letting Nox Nostra deal tons of damage that’s hard to avoid.

However, since you become a very easy target while using Nox Nostra, you’ll need some sort of safety net when using it. You can either use the second cast of Sanguine Retreat to dodge incoming abilities, or simply wait for enemies to use all their skills and items before using this. Alternatively, use Sanguine Retreat to fly upward before using Nox Nostra for better coverage.

Colossus and Diviner’s Kevlar are great for helping you survive while using Nox Nostra.
