Summary

  • Blue Archive offers various team compositions based on character types and color affinities for strategic RPG battles.
  • Trinity Team excels in damage and sustain, while Red Team specializes in explosive AoE damage against light armor.
  • Yellow Team breaks heavy armor well, and Mystic Team excels in magic damage against special armor in PvE battles.

The anime-inspired tactical RPG Blue Archive has been receiving a steady stream of updates since its release in 2021. Nexon’s free-to-play gacha game is an interesting take on the genre, with players assembling their squad of anime girls to take on strategic RPG battles with real-time elements. As players would expect from the genre, there is a huge roster of characters to collect and combine into teams.

Teams in Blue Archive are made up of four on-field characters (Strikers) and two support characters (Specials). The various characters tend to fit into the typical RPG archetype roles of Tank, DPS, Healer, and Support. Characters also have certain color affinities that will determine what kind of enemies they’ll be strongest against. For example, Red characters are explosive-based and deal more damage to light armor. Raids are color-coded too, so players know what teams will work in a given mission before going in.

Blue Archive: 8 Best Characters for Beginners, Ranked

For players just starting out on their Blue Archive journey, these are the best characters for beginners to try out.

With the number of characters, that means players have a lot of options for compositions, as they can choose to load up DPS on the field with healing and support from the Specials, choose more defensive compositions with on-field tanks and support, and more. For players who want an overview of some good teams for different scenarios and enemy types, these are the best teams in Blue Archive.

Teams have been assembled for different types of raids based on achievable compositions, mostly ignoring rare variants and units that players will need a lot of luck or time investment to acquire. That means many of the members in these positions can be replaced if players have access to stronger units that fill the same role.

Trinity Team

High DPS

Blue Archive story boss fight

Strikers:

  • Hasumi
  • Tsurugi
  • Seia
  • Hifumi

Special:

This team is themed around Trinity School characters. It will comfortably cover both damage and sustain, and it’s uniquely useful in the Chesed raid due to the mechanics of the fight. The team can be outclassed elsewhere, but it can be a good strategy regardless.

The Trinity Team doesn’t soak up damage with standard tank, but instead relies on Tsurugi’s self-sustain from kills, Hifumi’s summoning to provide additional targets, and the general survivability of Hasumi, while being supported by Mari’s healing from the Special team. Seia provides additional DPS coverage on the field, while Mika buffs attack and critical damage while in the Special team.

Red (Explosive) Team

Light Armor Counter

Blue Archive sniper backline

Strikers:

Special:

This team of Red characters excels at outputting high AoE damage against lightly armored enemies. The on-field characters consist of one Tank and three DPS types, with healing coming from the Tank’s self-sustain and the Special character Fuka’s healing and defensive buffs.

Blue Archive: 9 Best Support Characters, Ranked

The Support role in Blue Archive can take many shapes and forms. For those looking to really dominate, here are the best Support characters available.

Yuuka is the tank in this setup, as her self-healing will allow her to soak up plenty of damage for the rest of the team. Hina, Aru, and Mutsuki all provide explosive AoE options, and Aru’s sniper rifle gives players a way to focus on single targets, too. The additional support character Hibiki will provide additional AoE damage and buff the critical damage of the team.

3

Yellow (Piercing) Team

Heavy Armor Breakers

Blue Archive Binah boss fight

Strikers:

  • Hoshino
  • Iori
  • Junko
  • Nonomi

Special:

This team of Piercing characters deals high damage to heavy armored units and can output a lot of single-target damage, while also being able to deal some AoE damage when needed. Hoshino is the Tank in this team, acting as frontline protection with knockback. Her self-healing effect that procs below 30% HP will be augmented by having Chinatsu in the Special members, as she can boost the healing value of the effect, as well as provide extra defense for the team.

Iori, Junko, and Nonomi all provide significant DPS against heavy armored enemies, and Nonomi can provide some AoE clear with her machine gun EX skill. Iori can also be used to provide high splash AoE damage, but she needs to dig in with her sniper rifle and sit at the back of the team to do so. The additional Special member, Ako, will give the team a critical damage buff, while also adding some extra healing abilities.

2

Mystic Team

Magic Squad

Blue Archive team defensive buff

Strikers:

  • Tsubaki
  • Asuna
  • Chise
  • Haruna

Special:

This magic-based team of Blue characters specializes in taking down enemies with special armor. They can deal both AoE and single-target burst damage and utilize one of the best self-sustaining Tanks in the game in Tsubaki. Tsubaki will fit into a lot of teams, but she excels here thanks to her ability to boost the whole team’s defense — and due to the support of Serina as a Special team member.

Blue Archive: Best Tank Characters, Ranked

From Damage-Absorbing Attackers to Self-Healing Strikers, the best Tanks in Blue Archive can help reshape a team into a formidable opponent.

Serina’s healing buff makes Tsubaki’s self-sustain near undefeatable in PvE play, and using Iroha as her fellow Special team member means that the team doesn’t lack attack power either. Haruna is great for sitting in the back and dealing high damage in a straight line with her sniper rifle. Chise provides more mystic AoE, and Asuna rounds out the DPS, though these two are less essential and can be replaced with other Blue DPS options.

1

PvP Team

Meta Comp

Blue Archive PvP challenge

Strikers:

  • Hoshino
  • Shun
  • Hanako
  • Shiroko

Special:

This team composition is designed for PvP content and represents a rough version of the game’s current meta team, though the high-performing versions will use specific character variants. Hoshino is filling the Tank role here due to her cost recovery function, though Tsubaki is another good pick for this role if players only have one or the other. Shun is an essential pick due to the starting bonus to cost she gives. Hanako and Shiroko are providing DPS here, with AoE coverage, and Hibiki will boost the damage from the Special team.

The most popular variants that players will likely see are Swimsuit Hanako and Terror Shiroko, but these are rare characters to obtain. Fundamentally, a PvP team differs from a PvE team due to higher cost generation and recovery being far more valuable, but there’s also countering the opponent to consider when assembling a team like this.
