Borderlands 4 players smashed a recent community challenge, earning a special Break Free Pack with new skins and a legendary shield. As a looter shooter, new gear and items are again a massive focus of Borderlands 4, and thanks to periodic Shift code releases, players can sometimes earn more than by simply playing.
Whether attempting to optimize a certain class build or simply looking to feel a bit more powerful, players are always looking for ways to collect new gear. Borderlands 4 has its fair share of legendary gear, and there are no shortage of ways to try and obtain them, either through post-game activities like the Ultimate Vault Hunter difficulty or farming boss encounters through Moxxi’s Big Encore. On occasion, Gearbox will also release unique Shift Codes, which can be redeemed to unlock all sorts of things like Golden Keys and more.
Hoping to inspire a bit of mayhem from its player base, Gearbox challenged the community to loot, beat bosses, and generally pile up the stats over the Borderlands 4 launch weekend. The challenge was met by players, likely thanks to the promise of free loot in the form of the Break Free Pack. As a reward for shooting and looting at extreme rates, players can pick up new rewards, including two ECHO-4 skins, a red, black and yellow colored vault hunter skin, as well as a Legendary shield called the Firebreak Ripper Shield.
Alongside the code reveal, Gearbox also shared some of the statistics from the community challenge, highlighting some interesting things the community did to help satisfy the requirements. Specifically, 1.5 million pieces of gear were looted from outhouses, 4.5 million players killed themselves with grenades, and over 764 million pieces of items have been looted in total. In fact, over 62 million bosses have been attempted, with only 16 million having failed to complete the encounter. Overall, that’s a pretty deceny clear rate, though that number will likely fall once Borderlands 4 adds in its Invincible bosses as DLC.
World bosses in Borderlands 4 are also a great way to potentially find some powerful gear, though there are a few things to keep in mind before taking on these challenges. Found randomly throughout the open world, players simply enter a rift to start the battle, pitting the player and the boss against one another inside a dome. However, as players have found out, moving outside of the dome instantly stops the fight and despawns the boss entirely, meaning any rewards can’t be claimed, so it pays to know the boundries of the battle.
