Description

Tomb Raider fans on PlayStation consoles may be in for a special surprise in the near future, with Tomb Raider: Anniversary potentially seeing a new release on PS4 and PS5. The beloved series of adventure shooters starring the iconic Lara Croft has seen a resurgence in recent years with a plethora of remasters of classic games. 2024 saw a remaster of the original trilogy of Tomb Raider games from the PS1 with the launch of Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, while Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered arrived earlier this year. Now, yet another classic Tomb Raider may be making a comeback.

Tomb Raider Anniversary (2007)

Much like the name would suggest, Tomb Raider: Anniversary served as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the massively popular franchise. Anniversary came as a remake of the original Tomb Raider, following globe-trotting archaeologist Lara Croft’s adventures to uncover the mysterious Scion of Atlantis. While the game saw initial praise from fans and critics, its sales would not translate with Anniversary sitting as the lowest-selling main-series Tomb Raider game. A new report now suggests that Anniversary may be returning to modern consoles.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary Coming to PS4 and PS5

As reported by PushSquare, a recent change to the PlayStation Network is likely hinting at a new release for Tomb Raider: Anniversary. The update features a fully fleshed-out trophy list for Tomb Raider: Anniversary on the PSN, including 26 different Trophies with the game notably boasting a Platinum Trophy. The list boasts the typical Trophies for completing the game’s story, while also rewarding some special tasks like “becoming a statue” and holding large quantities of Medipacks. Sony has not officially announced the Tomb Raider: Anniversary port, nor does the Trophy list specify a release date.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary‘s new release makes yet another classic entry in the dungeon-delving franchise available on modern PlayStation consoles. Anniversary‘s PSN release will become the second entry in the Tomb Raider: Legend trilogy to make its way to the PSN, with only Tomb Raider: Underworld still missing. The port of Tomb Raider: Anniversary is also expected to be available through the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus, much like the port of Legend before it.

The return of another classic Tomb Raider game comes as the future is unclear for the franchise as a whole. Most recent releases of Tomb Raider have come as remasters or re-releases of older games in the franchise, with 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider coming as the last fully-new entry in the franchise. Tomb Raider is set to receive its own TV series from Amazon, with the studio recently announcing that Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner will play the role of Lara Croft. While Tomb Raider‘s gaming future remains uncertain, Anniversary‘s re-release will bring fans back to another classic entry in the franchise.
