Critical Role recently revealed a story trailer for Campaign 4 that centers the plot around the pending execution of an enigmatic figure named Thjazi Fang. The wolves are at the door, and it will be up to the 13 Dungeons and Dragons player characters of Critical Role Campaign 4 to navigate this volatile situation.
Recently, Critical Role revealed that its fourth main campaign would be quite different from its previous stories. Not only is Critical Role Campaign 4 being DMed by Dimension 20’s Brennan Lee Mulligan, with Matt Mercer playing alongside a dozen other stars, both old and new, but it will take place in a completely original world called Araman.
Critical Role Campaign 4 – The Execution of Thjazi Fang
Now, Critical Role has shared a brand-new teaser trailer that reveals the exciting premise of the campaign. The short video is narrated by Mulligan as the firebrand Thjazi Fang, who has been captured by his enemies 12 years after an event called “The Falcon’s Rebellion.” He says the Sundered Houses are “stronger than ever,” but that the Revolutionary Council is “a shadow of its former glory.” He closes the video with a call to action, evoking the war against the gods of Araman from 80 years ago, and saying “I can still hear the Falcon’s cry. Can you?”
The official description for Critical Role Campaign 4 provides even further context. Fang is referred to as a “Hero to many, enemy to some,” implying the players will be united to “uncover the truth behind his grim fate.” The godless realm of Araman will demand “great deeds” from the cast of Critical Role Campaign 4 as they contend with “who, or what, shall grab the crown for themselves.”
Hero to many. Enemy to some. When Thjazi Fang is marked for execution, various figures from across his remarkable life unite to uncover the truth behind his grim fate. In a land still suffering from the fallout of dead gods and living in the shadow of a tumultuous rebellion, these disparate people will come together across the fractured world of Aramán and connect in ways they never imagined.
As hope and victory fade, a question hangs over Aramán. Without the Gods, what great deeds now fall to us? And who, or what, shall grab their crown for themselves?
Needless to say, the premise for Critical Role Campaign 4 seems to be full of iconoclasm, intrigue, and the socialistic unity that Mulligan is known for. The life and legacy of Fang, the Falcon’s Rebellion, and the Revolutionary Council appear to be major figures in the game, while the Sundered Houses are being set up as significant adversarial forces. It sounds like the 13 player characters of Critical Role Campaign 4, spread across three groups – the Seekers, the Soldiers, and the Schemers – will have quite the minefield of challenges to navigate through.
Fans hoping to watch Campaign 4 can do so every Thursday at 7 PM PT starting October 2 on Twitch, YouTube, or Critical Role’s Beacon streaming service. Campaign 4 will be using 5th Edition D&D‘s 2024 rules, albeit with homebrew from former Dungeons and Dragons directors Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins. This campaign is also fully divorced from every previous Critical Role story, so absolutely no knowledge of Exandria will be required to enjoy the actual play series.
