One of the biggest question marks attached to Diablo 4 right now is the status of the game’s next expansion. So far, all that is currently known about the game’s second expansion following Vessel of Hatred is that it is planned for a 2026 release, but Blizzard has been keeping major details about it under wraps. However, Diablo 4 Season 9 already has some hints about what players can expect from this DLC, with one Mythic item teasing content the game has yet to pull the trigger on in the three seasons since it was added.
There are several lingering mysteries Diablo 4 has been teasing for some time now, such as the rumored Secret Cow Level players have found references to. Additionally, a potential hint at the next expansion’s setting may be hidden in Diablo 4 Season 9 as well, showing that Blizzard is already planting the seeds for future content in the current iteration of the game. The Heir of Perdition has one tease that has flown under many players’ radars for the past three seasons, likely due to how rare the Mythic headgear is, but Diablo 4 may finally be gearing up to introduce a mechanic teased in one of the item’s affixes.

Diablo 4 Season 9’s new uniques are some of the best the game has ever seen, but one among the group falls short of expectations.
Among Diablo 4‘s Mythic items, the Heir of Perdition has made a name for itself as one of the top choices for players looking to optimize their endgame build since its introduction in Season 6. Released alongside the Vessel of Hatred expansion but accessible to all Diablo 4 players, the Heir of Perdition has a unique affix that grants players a blanket 60%[x] damage bonus on top of other useful buffs to Movement Speed, Crit Chance, and Core Skills. Particularly interesting is the helm’s inherent affix that reads:
Diablo 4 features plenty of demon enemies for players to deal increased damage to while wearing the Heir of Perdition. Currently, the only angel to make an appearance in Diablo 4 is Inarius, an NPC and ally in the fight against Lilith during the main campaign. As such, no angel enemies exist within Diablo 4, suggesting that a future update may add them and that the Heir of Perdition will be beneficial when fighting them.
The Diablo series does have a history of including angel enemies in the past, such as Izual in Diablo 2 and Malthael in Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. In both instances, these angels were corrupted and served the Burning Hells rather than the High Heavens, with Malthael’s Reaper underlings following their leader in his conquest of Westmarch in the Reaper of Souls expansion. It’s possible that corrupted angels could appear in the next Diablo 4 expansion, especially since it seems likely that it will focus on the Church of Light and the corruption of the prophet Akarat by Mephisto.
Corrupted angel enemies make even more sense for a Church of Light-themed Diablo 4 expansion when considering Season 9 teases a return to Westmarch in the near future. One NPC in Cerrigar can be heard preaching about the return of the Prophet—likely referring to Akarat under Mephisto’s control—and urges listeners to make a pilgrimage west to see for themselves. Many Diablo 4 players believe this is hinting at Westmarch being a new playable region in the next expansion, as it is to the west of Diablo 4‘s current map and has deep ties to the Church of Light. Westmarch is also where Malthael unleashed his corrupted angel Reapers in Diablo 3‘s expansion, making it a fitting location for the enemy type to return in Diablo 4.
