Drake Reveals New Album in Stream, Throws Shade at Kendrick Lamar

Canadian rapper Drake has released a new single called “What Did I Miss?,” which was preceded by a new YouTube stream teasing his ninth studio album Iceman. The song largely targets those who played both sides of the infamous Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef, while also taking aim at the latter rapper once more.

As fans know, the beef hit its stride in October 2023 on Drake’s “First Person Shooter.” Featured artist J. Cole suggested that he, Drake, and Lamar were part of the “Big Three” in modern hip-hop; however, Lamar later responded with a verse on “Like That” denying there was a big three, that it was just “big me.” The feud spiraled from there with songs and disses exchanged across several songs, with Lamar performing his Drake diss track “Not Like Us” at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show.

Now, it seems that Drake is preparing his ninth album surrounding the fallout of his beef with Kendrick Lamar (as reported by Complex Music). On July 4, Drake released “What Did I Miss?” and did a YouTube live stream titled Iceman Episode 1. In the stream, Drake drove an Iceman-branded truck around Toronto, sat in an Iceman-branded warehouse, ate food, watched old videos of himself, and did a live performance of What Did I Miss?.” Drake drew a crowd during this stream, most of whom were positive, but Drake did angrily respond to one fan who sought to diss him.

For now, at least, “What Did I Miss?” is the big headline. The song attracted many fans, some of whom are curious if the song addressed Lamar himself or the beef. The song, at large, calls out those who played both sides of the feud rather than supporting him. While that was the target, it of course included some mild lyrics regarding Kendrick Lamar. For example, at one point in the song, Drake says “I saw bro in the Pop Out with them but been d*ckriding gang since headlines.” Pop Out is a direct reference to Lamar’s Pop Out concert in June 204, it itself being connected to the beef.

Details and plans for the upcoming are understandably scarce, but as it stands, fans can probably expect more streams from Drake on YouTube in the lead up to its release. After all, this first live stream was just “episode one” of Iceman.
