Sony launched the new era of PlayStation Plus in June 2022, combining the previous version with PS Now. Although the latter subscription service was around for a long time, PS Now struggled to get over its early negative reputation, so a revamp was needed to wipe the slate clean. PS Plus has been way more successful and reliable.
PS Plus is split into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential unlocks PlayStation’s online features, along with providing a couple of free monthly games. Along with Essential’s offerings, Extra grants access to hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games; meanwhile, Premium extends the lineup to include older consoles. Each month, Sony adds a bunch of new PS Plus games to each tier, including first-party PS5 exclusives, third-party juggernauts, PS VR2 games, and indie darlings. Some months are better than others, but they all tend to include a couple of standouts. What are all the monthly games that have been added to PS Plus?
Updated September 11, 2025 by Mark Sammut: The new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for September 2025 have been revealed.
PS Plus Extra and Premium have some of the greatest PlayStation games from across the console brand’s history, and here are the best of the best.
Free PS Plus Essential Games For September 2025
Psychonauts 2 (PS4); Stardew Valley (PS4); Viewfinder (PS4)
PS Plus’ free games for September 2025 are overall fantastic, even if they are fairly old by this point. Subscribers of any tier can add the following titles to their libraries: Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley, and Viewfinder.
In terms of sheer popularity, depth of content, and industry influence, Stardew Valley is about as big of a name as the industry has ever produced, especially when it comes to independent releases. Created by a solo developer, the game is firmly established as one of the greatest farming sims of all time, and it is pretty much the full package. At this point, most people have probably played Stardew Valley in some form or another, but if you are (for some reason) still on the fence about trying this masterpiece, you can now take the plunge without having to drop any additional cash.
Big budget 3D platformers are not particularly common in this day and age, although we still get the occasional noteworthy release. Psychonauts 2 represents the genre at its surreal peak, delivering a story-driven adventure that is like Mario blended with Inception. The writing is awesome, the gameplay is effective, and the visuals are creative. Overall, Psychonauts 2 is a masterclass.
Finally, Viewfinder is September 2025’s smallest free PS Plus game, at least when it comes to name recognition. However, if you are into puzzles, you will definitely want to give this a try.
All Monthly Games That Were Free On PS Plus Essential
Past PS Plus Games Include Lies Of P, Diablo, Dragon Age, And More
1-Month Price: $9.99
3-Month Price: $24.99
12-Month Price: $79.99
Formerly known as just PS Plus, Essential is the minimum required to play online multiplayer on the PS5 or PS4. Every month, the tier rotates a couple of new free PS Plus games. While these titles are only available to purchase for roughly a month, anyone who picks them up can continue to play them after that point as long as they have an active subscription.
The best single-player games on the PlayStation 5 are typically narrative-driven affairs, built around compelling characters and fantastic storylines.
1-Month Price: $14.99
3-Month Price: $39.99
12-Month Price: $134.99
PS Plus Extra includes a catalog featuring hundreds of games. Extra focuses exclusively on PS5 and PS4 titles, and each month expands the existing library with roughly 10 to 20 new additions. Unlike Essential, PS Plus Extra games are available indefinitely, although some could be removed after spending a few months on the service.
The PlayStation Plus Extra’s games for September 2025 cover a wide spectrum of genres, making for an eclectic selection that sounds great on paper but likely only includes a handful of exciting options for most subscribers. Ultimately, PS Plus’s goal is to satisfy as many preferences as possible, so variety should definitely be the focus. Sure, most new additions will not hit the mark with most people, but the aim is to ensure that each month has at least a couple of titles that provide value to each user. For the most part, September 2025’s lineup accomplishes that goal.
Nowadays, the yearly WWE 2K game landing on PS Plus is tradition, and the 2025 addition continues the franchise’s recent good form. Honestly, if you have not loved any of the recent entries or are not into wrestling, WWE 2K25 has basically nothing for you. However, the gameplay is rock-solid, and the Bloodline Showcase is far better than its predecessor’s WrestleMania Showcase.
The Phantom Thieves are back for a time-traveling adventure in Persona 5 Tactica, a spin-off game that adopts a different genre well. While you should not go in expecting an experience similar to P5 or P5 Royal (or even Strikers), Tactica is more than good enough to carry the Persona name, and it is just fun to spend more time with these characters.
Fate/Samurai Remnant is my personal pick for the best PS Plus Extra game of September 2025, and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone craving an JRPG with a solid story, great historical setting, lovable characters, and solid Musou-style combat. The Invincible should be a must-play for sci-fi fans, while Green Hell is a great horror survival game. Crow Country is a fun indie throwback to Resident Evil‘s past, while Conscript provides an interesting isometric take on the horror genre.
Sony’s PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers have hundreds of titles, including some of the best PlayStation 5 games.
All Classic Games That Were Added To PS Plus Premium
Current Month: June 2025 PS Plus Premium
1-Month Price: $17.99/month
3-Month Price: $49.99
12-Month Price: $159.99
PS Plus Premium includes everything available on Sony’s service. Along with Essential and Extra’s games and benefits, this tier includes a classic catalog of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, along with some PS4 remasters. Premium’s monthly additions have been inconsistent so far, and it is not unusual for a month to go by with barely any classic additions to the tier.
Although most lineups contain only a handful of classics, PS Plus Premium has been steadily enhancing its old-school library, particularly when it comes to PSP and PS1 releases. The games might not all be bona fide masterpieces, but the selection covers both well-known and obscure properties. Since June 2024, Sony has begun to add PS VR2 games to PS Plus Premium.
The September 2025 PS Plus classic monthly game is Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which is a cult classic and one of the better entries in the franchise (a statement not made lightly).
