Description

In the Borderlands franchise, Sirens are powerful beings capable of massive feats. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the purpose and role of the Sirens in the Borderlands universe. The established lore of Sirens states that there can only be six Sirens in existence at a time. Why is this the case? Nobody knows exactly. There have been dialogue lines hinting at a seventh Siren, though players have seen no evidence of this in the actual games.

Sirens play a large role in the Borderlands franchise. From playable characters to pivotal NPCs, Sirens are always at the center of each game’s narrative. There may be an even larger emphasis put on these characters in Borderlands 4 as well. With this in mind, it’s worth pondering which Sirens will play a role. We can account for (potentially) six Sirens alive at the time of Borderlands 4. It is likely that the developers will introduce a more complex backstory for this class of characters in the upcoming title, possibly with the introduction of the rumored seventh Siren.

Amara

Siren Powers: Phaseslam, Phasecast, Phasegrasp, & Phaseflare

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 3, Borderlands 4

Amara was the playable Siren in Borderlands 3 and became a powerful hero in the Borderlands universe over the course of the game. She joined the Crimson Raiders, alongside other notable playable characters, where she continues to fight on the side of good.

The developers of Borderlands 4 have confirmed that Amara will make an appearance in the upcoming game, so we can expect her to play a pivotal role in the game’s story. The fate of previously introduced playable Sirens has not been the safest in the franchise, so whether she makes it to the end of Borderlands 4 remains to be seen.

Ava

Siren Powers: Phaselock

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 3

Ava was a controversial character introduced in Borderlands 3. She was the apprentice of Maya, the playable Siren from Borderlands 2, where she was learning to harness her Siren powers. Sirens have the ability to choose a successor, passing on their powers to the protege when they are no longer around. Because of this, Ava inherited Maya’s Phaselock powers upon her death.

Though it’s not confirmed, Ava will likely appear in Borderlands 4. She was taken in by the Crimson Raiders at the end of Borderlands 3 and has large aspirations. Learning to use and strengthen her powers is important to her, especially after the death of her mentor, so players will likely see her continue that journey.

Lilith

Siren Powers: Phasewalk

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3

As the first playable Siren, and the one with the most appearances, she is the most well-known among fans. She is usually considered to be the strongest Siren in the franchise as well. This is justified by the fact that, at the end of Borderlands 3, Lilith uses all of her power to stop an entire moon, Elpis, from crashing into Pandora.

After this massive feat, Lilith’s fate remained extremely ambiguous. If players did not see her death on screen, it’s very unlikely that the developers will end her role in the franchise. While she may appear in Borderlands 4, it’s unknown how big a role she will play.

Tannis

Siren Powers: Phaseshift

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3

Patricia Tannis has been around since the first Borderlands game, though she wasn’t revealed to be a Siren until Borderlands 3. This is because Tannis wasn’t born a Siren and inherited her powers when Angel, a foe-turned-friend from Borderlands 2, was defeated by the vault hunters. She acquired Angel’s powers, which allowed her to further research Eridian technology and the origins of Sirens in the universe.

Tannis will certainly appear in Borderlands 4 and will likely be a mentor figure for the new vault hunters in the world of Kairos. We don’t know fully what the narrative of Borderlands 4 will cover, but Tannis is an invaluable and powerful ally that will be of use in most scenarios.

Vex

Siren Powers: Phase Covenant, Phase Clone Minion, Phase Explosion, & Phase Phamiliar

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 4

Vex is the newest Siren introduced in the franchise and will be a playable character in Borderlands 4. While we don’t know the full scope of her powers yet, her kit seems to be powerful and may even be more impressive than past playable Sirens.

Like other Sirens, Vex is called to the life of vault hunting after harnessing her powers. She can summon a companion Phase Tiger that is deadly on the battlefield. She will likely play a central role in the game’s narrative, and she could even be the central figure among the other vault hunters.

Asha

Siren Power: Animal Control

  • Notable appearance(s): Borderlands: The Fall of Fyrestone (comic book), Borderlands: Tannis and the Vault (comic book)

Asha’s appearance in Borderlands 4 is the most unlikely out of all Sirens mentioned in this list. She was introduced in a comic series that is questionably canon to the rest of the franchise. She hasn’t been mentioned in any of the mainline Borderlands games, so it’s safe to say the developers consider her a non-starter for Borderlands 4.

She’s worth including, however, as if her stories are considered canon, she would still be alive at the time of Borderlands 4. Her powers are a bit out of the ordinary for a Siren. Rather than having a Phase-focused set of powers, she can control animals and monsters. It’s an impressive skill to have, if a bit unorthodox for a Siren. She has had interactions with other notable characters, including Tannis and Marcus, so we shouldn’t entirely rule out her potential appearance.
