Everyone Who Knows Dexter Morgan’s Secret

Dexter Morgan was taught Harry’s Code by his adoptive father, providing him with a set of rules that would ensure that he would only kill those who deserved it. However, the first rule of Harry’s Code was don’t get caught, which is something that Dexter managed to break quite a few times during his serial killing sprees when his Dark Passenger was at the wheel.

Harry Morgan

Dexter’s Adoptive Father

• Portrayed by: James Remar

As Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry always knew there was going to be a darkness within Dexter, ever since he rescued the young boy from a shipping container filled with his own mother’s blood. Dexter’s killing of animals made Harry aware that one day humans would be next, so he helped instill Harry’s Code to ensure Dexter only killed criminals and would never get caught. Harry was the first to know of Dexter’s dark passenger and even gave his blessing to kill, but seeing it happen firsthand made Harry take his own life.

Brian Moser

Dexter’s Secret Brother

• Portrayed by: Christian Camargo

Brian Moser was the first to find out who Dexter really was. After all, Brian was Dexter’s relative. Brian had followed his brother closely and discovered his secret as a serial killer, thus spurring Brian on to start a game for Dexter to find out the truth about his past and his brother. Brian tried to get Dexter to join him as brothers born of blood and addicted to the relief of blood, but Dexter chose to kill his only living blood relative to save his adopted sister and keep the Code.

James Doakes

The Suspicious Police Sergeant

James Doakes has always been suspicious of Dexter. Doakes was a sergeant and knew that there was something that Dexter was hiding, only it was far worse than he could’ve imagined. Doakes discovered that Dexter was a serial killer after finding his blood slides in his apartment and then discovering Dexter with limbs in trash bags. Despite knowing the truth, Doakes wouldn’t make it out alive due to Dexter’s obsessive stalker, who always found out the truth.

Lila West

A Dangerous Arsonist

• Portrayed by: Jaime Murray

Lila West was the first woman to show Dexter that it’s okay to have a dark passenger. However, Lila was unaware that this dark passenger was a serial killer, but even when she found out after a sexual fling with what she thought was a drug addict in recovery at an NA meeting, she still pursued him. Lila discovered Dexter’s truth and even covered it up by killing Doakes, but this stint of serial arson made Lila dangerous, and a prime target for Dexter so that he could keep his secret and ensure Doakes was avenged.

Miguel Prado

The Assistant District Attorney Addicted to the Kill

• Portrayed by: Jimmy Smits

Miguel Prado was the Assistant District Attorney of Miami, and a man who let his darkness get the better of him after his brother was murdered. Miguel’s growing impatience and lack of faith in the justice system saw him try to take matters into his own hands, only to catch Dexter quite literally red-handed in the middle of a murder of the man who killed Miguel’s brother. While Miguel never knew Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher, he did know that Dexter was a serial killer who only killed criminals, and while he tried to join him for that venture, he was ultimately consumed by his obsession with death until he became Dexter’s next victim.

Lumen Pierce

A Surviving Victim Who Took Her Revenge

• Portrayed by: Julia Stiles

Killing a man named Boyd Fowler spiraled Dexter into a new relationship, as Fowler’s surviving victim witnessed this murder. Lumen began to trust Dexter and even worked alongside him to kill the men who had tortured and raped her, but after the final kill, Lumen was able to move on, leaving both Dexter and Miami behind.

Jordan Chase

A Truly Despicable Man

• Portrayed by: Jonny Lee Miller

Jordan Chase was a smart man who swindled vulnerable men with his self-help speeches, but behind his public persona was a sadist who relished in watching men torture and rape women. Chase’s intelligence helped him deduce that Dexter was a serial killer out to get him next, but even with this knowledge, it didn’t stop Dexter from accomplishing his goal.

Debra Morgan

Dexter’s Adoptive Sister

• Portrayed by: Jennifer Carpenter

The last person Dexter Morgan ever wanted to find out he was a serial killer was Debra Morgan, his own sister. For years, Debra never suspected a thing, but she found herself at Travis Marshall’s church, where she witnessed Dexter’s kill. It took a long time for Debra to come to terms with the fact that her brother was an infamous serial killer who took justice into his own hands, but her love for him and eventual understanding of how the system fails meant that their relationship could continue, even if it conflicted greatly with her.

Hannah McKay

A Poisoner Who Will Do Anything to Survive

• Portrayed by: Yvonne Strahovski

Hannah McKay was the young girlfriend of a serial killer, and while she was never convicted of his crimes, Dexter Morgan discovered that she was responsible for at least one death. In a guise to get her alone, Dexter took Hannah on a date which ended with her covered in plastic and involved in his ritual. However, Hannah’s desire and readiness for his dark passenger and death made Dexter fall madly in love with this passionate poisoner who understood the idea of killing bad people and those who would try to catch Dexter or her.

Isaak Sirko

A Trained Killer in the Koshka Brotherhood

• Portrayed by: Ray Stevenson

Isaak Sirko was a notorious criminal involved in the Koshka Brotherhood, and even without police resources, he deduced Dexter’s secret. Isaak himself was a killer out for revenge after Dexter murdered his lover, Viktor Baskov. Despite an understanding and respect of what he did, Isaak couldn’t let Dexter get away with what he did, which resulted in him taking Dexter’s secret to the bottom of the ocean.
