The $200 Collector’s Edition of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is drawing criticism on social media over its contents, which reportedly include several items of questionable quality. Some fans have gone as far as to label these dubious Metal Gear Solid Delta goodies as “trash.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta Collector's Edition Contents

The MGS Delta: Snake Eater Collector’s Edition was originally unveiled in June 2024, with its announcement coinciding with the start of the game’s pre-orders. Among other things, Konami said the limited-edition package would include a miniature terrarium diorama depicting the opening scene of the Virtuous Mission, showing Naked Snake kneeling to accept a radio call from HQ.

MGS Delta Collector’s Edition Buyer Baffled by ‘Chuck Norris’ Snake

With Metal Gear Solid Delta officially releasing on August 28, some Collector’s Edition pre-orders have already reached their owners. A vocal share of them expressed dissatisfaction, particularly with the included terrarium. In one widely circulated Reddit post, user 1AmChris2 described the edition as “trash,” arguing that the diorama’s figure bears little resemblance to the game’s protagonist. The user cheekily added, “Snake is actually Chuck Norris?”

Apart from criticizing the low-quality rendition of the Metal Gear Solid Delta protagonist, 1AmChris2 also took issue with the terrarium itself, noting that the package did not include anything to attach the foliage to the diorama. As a result, they said they had to use their own glue to assemble it. Expressing disappointment, the fan concluded by saying they would not purchase any more collector’s editions from Konami. Their post amassed thousands of upvotes and emerged on the front page of the r/MetalGearSolid subreddit within hours of appearing on August 28, prompting hundreds of comments mocking the perceived lack of quality in the $200 package.

Another MGS Delta Owner Compares it to ‘a Smack in the Face’

In another widely circulated post, Reddit user Mason12075 voiced similar frustrations with the Collector’s Edition. “The foliage is not what they pictured initially,” the fan said, describing it as “awful imitation moss stuff that looks worse in person and does anything but stay upright.” They ultimately expressed regret over spending $200 on the edition, likening the experience to “a smack in the face.”

Retailer listings reviewed by Game Rant indicate that the Metal Gear Solid Delta Collector’s Edition is sold out in the United States as of August 29, with the exception of a sole Walmart reseller offering it for $309.99. Some stateside and international scalpers have already listed it on eBay, with prices starting at $275—a 37.5% markup. Despite controversy over the perceived lack of quality in the limited-edition package, the game itself appears to be off to a strong start, currently ranking as the best-selling paid title on Steam. Critics also appear to be loving it, with Metal Gear Solid Delta review scores falling just shy of the widely acclaimed original.
