Description

Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will run at 30 FPS amid hopes of a higher performance for the game. The Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was first announced in the Spring, before the console had even been released. Since then, Square Enix has promised that all three Final Fantasy 7 remake entries will arrive on Switch 2 when all is said and done.

Cloud, Tifa and Barret

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the hottest commodity in gaming since its launch in early June. The successor to the second highest-selling console of all time launched with Mario Kart World, and Donkey Kong Bananza, which was released in the month following, has arguably become a contender for 2025’s Game of the Year. The Switch 2 is also considerably more powerful than the original, as it’s able to run a behemoth open-world RPG like Cyberpunk 2077 at 40 FPS. This, combined with the console’s capability of running less graphically intense games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at 60 FPS, has led to fans hoping that FF7 Remake Intergrade would also punch higher than 30 FPS.

FF7 Remake Intergrade Will Be 30 FPS on Switch 2

In a bit of disappointing news for Switch 2 owners and Final Fantasy fans, Square Enix has come out to clear the air surrounding Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade‘s Switch 2 performance. In a tweet, the publisher confirmed that FF7 Remake Intergrade will run at 30 FPS when it releases on Switch 2 this upcoming Winter. Square reminds fans in the tweet that they’ll get to enjoy the game’s “crisp visuals” in the absence of a higher frame rate, but many fans expressed their dissatisfaction under the tweet.

Considering the Nintendo Switch 2 is able to run a game like Cyberpunk 2077 at 40 FPS, it’s quite understandable that some Final Fantasy fans are upset at Square Enix’s decision to go with a lower frame rate, especially since FF7 Remake is a linear game compared to the massive and highly detailed open world that Cyberpunk offers. Perhaps Square Enix is planning a 40 or 60 FPS patch that could be coming to FF7 Remake Intergrade at some point down the line.

The Switch 2 isn’t the only new console FF7 Remake Intergrade is set to come to, as it’ll also be ported to Xbox some point this Winter as well. The announcement came paired with the shadow drop of Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox during the platform’s June showcase. There’s still no release date for the Xbox or Switch 2 ports of FF7 Remake Intergrade, though with the Tokyo Game Show just a month away, an announcement could be right around the corner.
