Fortnite Ramping Up Moderation on New Game Mode

Fortnite‘s hot new game mode is seeing an uptick in moderation from Epic Games, with the developer looking to keep the game mode’s voice chat in line. The massively popular battle royale has given fans plenty of different ways to play the beloved shooter, both with different game modes and even entirely new spinoffs. Fortnite has featured a variety of game modes that change up the battle royale’s formula, including “Ballistic,” “Blitz Royale,” and “Zero Build” among others. Now, the newest addition to the Fortnite lineup is gaining particular attention.

Fortnite officially debuted its “Delulu” game mode late last week, focused on fast-pace fights and with a new squad mechanic. Players can team up in squads of up to 4 within the game mode’s 60-man matches, with players able to actively group up with others mid-match to turn the tides of the game. The game mode also puts a heavy emphasis on proximity voice chat, allowing players to communicate with both their squadmates and enemies in the heat of battle. However, the focus on voice chat has also sparked a change in Epic Games’ approach to moderation.

Many Fortnite users are reporting a significant uptick in in-game bans connected to the Delulu game mode’s proximity voice chat. A post shared by Fortnite‘s official “Fortnite Status” account reveals that thousands of users have been banned from the Delulu game mode for “behavior that violates our community rules.” Delulu moderation has likely made heavy use of Fortnite‘s voice reporting, with users now able to communicate with any other players near them in a match instead of just their own squadmates. Epic Games also reminds users in the post how to report other players breaking the game’s community rules.

Fortnite Increasing Moderation on New Game Mode

Fortnite‘s new moderation policies come as the newest game mode has put the emphasis on creating a chaotic environment within Delulu. Being able to freely join and leave squads allows players to both team up with others in order to increase their chances, but also betray their team in a dire situation for another squad. The increased moderation has seen a positive response from many players following Delulu’s release, praising Epic Games for helping to “keep chat clean” and removing players using hate speech or slurs.

The new game mode’s success joins numerous exciting updates and crossovers coming to Fortnite throughout recent weeks. Leaks have hinted at a number of crossovers coming to the game in the near future, including Daft Punk, The Binding of Isaac, and K-Pop Demon Hunters among others. Fortnite has already brought plenty of crossovers with Chapter 6 Season 4 as well, including recent Kai Cenat and John Cena skins. Fortnite‘s newest game mode already looks to be a hit and Epic Games’ moderation looks to help keep players in line.
