Description

Forza Horizon 5 has reportedly already passed an impressive milestone on the PlayStation 5, breaking the two million sales threshold within a month of its release. The beloved racing franchise from Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios made its debut on PlayStation consoles earlier this year and has already been a smash hit with Sony gamers. A report from last month revealed that Forza Horizon 5 had already earned over $100 million for Microsoft following its PS5 launch, sitting as the top-selling PS5 game in May. Now, Forza may have added another accolade with its PS5 debut.

While Forza had been an Xbox-exclusive series since the launch of Forza Motorsport in 2005, Forza Horizon 5 marked a major turning point for the franchise. The debut of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 in late April served as the first time a main-series Forza game had launched on a non-Xbox console, breaking 20 years of Xbox exclusivity. Forza‘s success on PS5 was immediate as well, with the game becoming the second best-selling game in April in the US despite launching on April 29. Forza‘s early PS5 success is now becoming even more clear.

As reported by PushSquare, a recent update from former Turn 10 Studios game and level designer Harrison Bolin has shared some major news about Forza on PS5. According to Bolin’s LinkedIn resume, updated following his departure from Microsoft, Forza Horizon 5 sold a staggering 2 million copies on the PS5 within just a month of the game’s release. The impressive numbers serve as particularly significant given the game’s age, with Forza Horizon 5 first releasing on Xbox nearly 4 years ago.

The impressive showing of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 may have come at the perfect time amidst struggles for other racing franchises. A recent report from EA revealed that the developer may have officially shelved Need for Speed, with developer Criterion Games now shifting to focus fully on Battlefield 6. Sony has been rumored to be planning a revival for the MotorStorm off-road racing franchise, though the developer has yet to officially confirm a new MotorStorm in the works.

While Forza Horizon 5 has seen huge success with its PS5 release, major changes are reportedly coming for the series. A former Turn 10 Studios employee shared that Forza‘s Motorsport sub-series has been shuttered by the developer, following recent layoffs at the studio. The developer is expected to be shifting its focus towards Forza Horizon as the franchise’s future, given the recent success of the arcade-style racing games. Forza Horizon will look to carry the franchise in the future, despite the uncertain status of the Motorsport games that launched the series.
