Jujutsu Kaisen is officially back, with Gege Akutami dropping a spin-off manga called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. It’s a brand-new series set in the same universe as Jujutsu Kaisen, but with a new set of protagonists—biological siblings Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu. Between the two, Tsurugi Okkotsu serves as the more stoic and disciplined sibling who seems destined for greatness.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 1 revealed valuable information about Tsurugi Okkotsu’s power and abilities as a Jujutsu Sorcerer. While his grade is not yet confirmed, it’s safe to assume that Tsurugi Okkotsu has the potential to reach grade 1 or special grade status in the near future thanks to the foreshadowing Gege Akutami slipped into the first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.

The first chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been released, and the creators were incredibly generous in giving fans a long read. The extended length of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 1 allowed Gege Akutami to flesh out the sibling dynamic between Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, as well as introduce their personalities and motivations as Jujutsu Sorcerers.
While Yuka Okkotsu was revealed to be close to her grandfather, Yuta Okkotsu, Tsurugi was close to his grandmother, Maki Zenin. Unlike Yuka, Tsurugi had no special memories of Yuta for some reason. Instead, Tsurugi looked up to Maki as his role model, admiring her strength, spending his childhood days training under her until she passed away. Through Maki’s guidance, Tsurugi eventually developed a combat style reminiscent of Maki.

Similar to Maki, Tsurugi Okkotsu has no cursed energy, which Yuka confirmed. This means that Tsurugi is also heavenly restricted like Maki, gaining immense physical strength and superhuman durability in exchange for his inability to use any cursed techniques. However, it’s very clear that Tsurugi Okkotsu’s Heavenly Restriction is still incomplete, as his body is yet to fully adapt to the trade-off.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 1 established Tsurugi Okkotsu as a highly capable Jujutsu Sorcerer with immense potential to become a worthy successor of his grandmother, Maki Zenin. Not only did Maki train Tsurugi, but she also encouraged him to grow stronger than anybody else, including his sister Yuka. It’s safe to assume that Maki nurtured Tsurugi’s potential to inherit her legacy as a cursed tool expert and master of armed combat at an early age.
Moreover, Maki herself even told 7-year-old Tsurugi that he was a lot like her, saying that Tsurugi is someone who grows stronger through loss. Maki’s statement is important, as it suggests that Tsurugi will experience the same type of growth Maki had. Back then, Maki lost Mai, and it was the trigger needed to awaken her full potential. If he follows the same path, Tsurugi could also unlock the full power of his Heavenly Restriction.

Fans witnessed the significant difference in Maki’s power level upon complete awakening, as she transformed into an absolute force of nature comparable to Toji Fushiguro. If Tsurugi’s incomplete Heavenly Restriction matures into a full awakening, he could rival Maki’s strength or even surpass her, potentially becoming the strongest physically gifted Jujutsu Sorcerer of his time.

One of the best things about Tsurugi Okkotsu is his relentless determination to grow stronger. As revealed by Yuka, Tsurugi is a training maniac, someone who would spend his day training rather than playing around like normal kids his age. His rivalry with his sister, as well as his difficult and complicated relationship with his clan help in maintaining a disciplined mindset, pushing him to improve his skills.
It won’t be a surprise if Tsurugi becomes a powerhouse in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo in no time, surpassing his sister despite her immense cursed energy. Tsurugi is a hard worker, and fans are certain that he will continue to grow stronger as long as Yuta’s ring is in his possession. Tsurugi knows that he can only return the ring to Yuka if he has proven himself stronger than anybody else, especially to Yuka.
