Gege Reveals The True Purpose Of Gojo Satoru’s Character
Description
This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s incredible manga finally wrapped up last year, and it is no surprise to know that the ending wasn’t well-liked by everyone. While JJK’s ending was satisfying to some, others strongly believed that it was rushed and didn’t focus on all the plot points that were established in the story, and that some character arcs weren’t concluded in the best way possible.
Among all the decisions that fans thought were questionable, the death of Gojo Satoru at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen remains to be the most contentious one. Fans have come to absolutely hate the decision, especially as the execution of Gege’s idea makes little sense. Now, Gege Akutami, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, has officially revealed to the fans what the true purpose of Gojo Satoru was in the story, and why he ended up killing him off the way he did.
Gojo Satoru Existed To Be Killed Off In The End
Gege Confirms He Always Planned For Gojo To Die
- Gojo was too strong to be kept alive
- Gojo losing to Sukuna was predetermined
According to Gege Akutami, killing off Gojo Satoru was one of the few things that he had decided upon very early into JJK. This means that right from when the story began, Gege knew that eventually, Gojo would fall in battle and that the series would have to wrap up without him. When taking into consideration the fact that Gojo Vs Sukuna was set up right in the first few chapters, it becomes even clearer that Gojo Satoru was always expected to die at the hands of the King of Curses.
Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honoured one! — Gojo Satoru
In fact, even in Gege’s alternate ending, in which he revealed himself, stating that instead of Yuji, NObara, and Megumi, only one character would’ve survived, Gojo would still have stayed dead. If there’s one thing that Gege was sure about, it was that Gojo Satoru wouldn’t be alive at the end of the story.
Naturally, fans wonder why Gege wanted to kill off Gojo so much, but the reason is clear. Gojo’s purpose was to raise the next generation of sorcerers and help them defeat Ryomen Sukuna. Gojo wanted to change the Jujutsu Society, so he became a teacher and he did well in raising brilliant Sorcerers like Yuta Okkotsu and Yuji Itadori. Had Gojo not died, they would never have grown the way they did. For them to grow, Gojo’s sacrifice was important. In the grand scheme of things, Gege Akutami’s true purpose for Gojo was to use him to help others grow.

Gojo Was There To Help The Students Grow
Gojo’s Dream Was Inherited By Yuta and Yuji
While Gojo Satoru is dead and is most certainly going to stay dead, his dream lives on. Gojo wanted to reset the JJK world and he did that after the fall of Sukuna. Fans saw the influence of the big families fade, and while the problems of corruption still exist without a proper solution in place, that’s exactly what Gojo raised the next generation for. His dreams are carried on by Yuta Okkotsu and Yuji Itadori. All that Gojo envisioned will be brought to life by them, and when they die, it’ll pass on to their successors. Gojo died, but in the grand scheme of things, he won, and he successfully fulfilled his goals.
