Mr. House recast in Fallout season 2 with Justin Theroux at the Lucky 38 Casino.
Kumail Nanjiani makes a cameo flying a Vertibird for the Brotherhood of Steel.
Season 2 trailer shows classic Fallout monsters like Deathclaws and Radroaches.
The Fallout series began in 1997 and was a big success on the PC front. The Fallout series would get rebooted with Fallout 3 in 2008, and then in 2010, Fallout: New Vegas was released, which is the more relevant game. The location, New Vegas, was teased at the end of Fallout’s first TV season in 2024.
While Amazon has been cagey about the new season all year, they finally released a teaser trailer at Gamescom during Opening Night Live. While the trailer was short, it was packed full of details that hardcore fans noticed, but maybe some of the more mild fans missed. Let’s break down what was going down in Fallout season two’s first trailer.
Mr. House Has Been Recast
There’s A New Sheriff In Town
There was a small flashback in season one that showed various board members talking at a Vault-Tec meeting. While he was never named, there was a man sitting in front of a Rob-Co nameplate, and fans deduced that it was Robert House, THE big villain of Fallout: New Vegas. In this scene, he was played by the relatively unknown character actor, Rafi Silver, and it should be known that House is the head of Rob-Co.
In the trailer for season two, Silver has been replaced by Justin Theroux, who some may know most recently from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice or perhaps HBO’s The Leftovers TV series. House’s base is at the Lucky 38 Casino, and in the flashback, the Gomorrah and Tops casinos were also shown.
Did You See Kumail?
A New Brotherhood Member
Season one of Fallout was full of cameos from comedic actors like Fred Armisen, Matt Berry, and Chris Parnell. It’s very brief, but there’s one big actor that appears in a single shot within this trailer: Kumail Nanjiani. He is flying a Brotherhood of Steel Vertibird with Maximus, and the two seem like chums.
Nanjiani is no stranger to video games, as he had a gaming podcast for a while called The Indoor Kids, and fans will recognize him from everything, including Eternals to Silicon Valley. Fallout fans probably also noticed Victor in a brief cameo shot within the trailer, who is one of House’s robots who has a cowboy insignia.
The Monsters
Lots Of Bugs In This Season
Besides ghouls and humans, characters shown in the trailer also take on a bunch of classic Fallout creatures. There’s a brief hallway shot wherein Vault 31 dwellers are running away from Radroaches and presumably dying.
There’s a very brief shot of baby Radscorpions going into the mouth of their mother, although where this takes place is never revealed. The coolest monster cameo goes to the Deathclaw stalking Lucy and The Ghoul within New Vegas’ walls. A Deathclaw skull was teased at the end of season one, and Fallout: New Vegas fans know Deathclaws are the strongest enemy in the game.
All The Shown Vaults
Were Those Sugar Bombs?
There are three, possibly four, Vaults shown in the Fallout trailer. First, there was the aforementioned hallway scene wherein Vault 31 citizens are getting owned by Radroaches. Vault 33 dwellers can be seen dancing around a table, which is the Vault Lucy is from.
Lucy wakes up in a bedroom that looks like a Vault, although there are never any uniforms shown to indicate where. What can be seen is a box of Sugar Bombs, and all Vault dwellers love that cereal. Finally, Hank can be seen in his Power Armor walking up to a Vault-Tec building.
The Factions
From Caesar’s Legion To The Kings
There are several factions in the New Vegas area of Fallout, but the one that gets highlighted the most in the trailer for Fallout season 2 is Caesar’s Legion. In one scene, Lucy can be seen being led away, while in another, there is a group cheering their brethren.
There is a more subtle faction in the trailer, toward the end, when Lucy is fighting some people in front of the Tops Casino. These people look like they belong to The Kings, an Elvis-themed group that reside in Freeside. Their headquarters are the Atomic Wrangler Casino, and while this fight scene is in front of the Tops Casino, there is another scene showcasing The Ghoul falling out of the Atomic Wrangler Casino.
Roadside Attractions
Showdown At The Dino Dee-lite Motel
There are plenty of fight scenes in the trailer to get fans pumped up and nods to bigger Fallout locations. One of the cooler little locations they visit in the trailer is the Dino Dee-lite Motel located in Novac. This little motel has a large T-Rex out front, which players could explore in the game.
In the trailer, Lucy can be seen hiding in the mouth of the statue alongside Dogmeat. Below, The Ghoul can be seen fighting some enemies, concluding with a pool explosion. Novac is located outside of New Vegas, so it can be assumed this is an earlier scene in season two.
Cooper At War
The Resource Wars
Most fight scenes with Cooper’s character are seen in his future form, The Ghoul. However, there is a teaser for a flashback scene while he was at war. In season one, Cooper says he was a soldier stationed in Alaska.
Fans deduced this meant he fought in the Resource Wars, which is a huge part of the Fallout lore. In the season two teaser, there is a scene showing a snowy tundra with fire erupting in the background. Also, Cooper can be seen wearing Power Armor. How this will tie into the greater New Vegas arc is unknown, as Alaska is quite the distance away.
