The Lagoon Layer is the first layer that players will get to explore in Donkey Kong Bananza after leaving the initial tutorial area. This area has a total of 72 fossils for players to collect: 61 Ammonite, 10 Anomalocaris, and 1 Whale fossil. These collectibles are absolutely essential in Donkey Kong Bananza, as they’re the required currency at clothing shops.
Donkey Kong Bananza fans must collect three bananas on the first challenge course in Lagoon Layer, Hangin’ on Roof Road.
The Whale fossil is the rarest one in Lagoon Layer, which is why many players will immediately wonder where they can find it and how to get it. This guide will tell players what they need to know so they can collect the Whale fossil in Lagoon Layer.
Lagoon Layer Whale Fossil Location in Donkey Kong Bananza
The Whale fossil is located on the outer part of Lagoon Layer (SL101), on a small island below a large platform, opposite of the Warp Gong. Even if players are far from it, they shouldn’t have much trouble spotting it, as it is a gigantic fossilized whale with a glowing orange hue.
The Whale fossil is visible as soon as players reach SL101. However, it is placed in an area that is inaccessible at first. So, gamers won’t be able to get it right away.
How to Get the Whale Fossil in Donkey Kong Bananza Lagoon Layer
To reach the Whale fossil in Donkey Kong Bananza, players must fix the water shortage so the water level will rise fully. Once the water is back to its original level in Lagoon Layer, gamers will be able to swim up to it.
Ammonite and Anomalocaris are easy to collect since they are small, especially in comparison with the Whale fossil. While normally players would be able to extract a fossil simply by punching it, in the case of the Whale, they have to destroy the rock that is attached to it in order to free it. They can do this by punching and smashing the stones that are behind the fossil.
Once enough stone as been removed and extraction is possible, the amber stone surrounding it will break apart and the fossil will be added to players’ collections in Donkey Kong Bananza.
