The Mist is an area in Hollow Knight: Silksong that can prove to be quite confusing. Indeed, the Mist does not function like a typical area, and while it is possible to get through it by randomly passing through exits, players should not expect to do so. Instead, players should use the simple strategy that is detailed in this guide to easily traverse the Mist in Silksong.
For those Silksong players who want a nudge in the right direction, rather than explicit details on how to pass through the Mist, it may be enough to say that the Needolin ability is of the utmost importance.
As has just been indicated, the Needolin ability, which allows Hornet to play ancient melodies by stringing silk along her needle, is the key to getting through the Mist. While it is expected that most players who have found the Mist will already have earned this ability, this guide to unlocking Needolin in Silksong may prove useful to those who have not.
Once a player has access to Needolin, they should enter the first room of the Mist and look for small white insects. Standing near those insects and using the Needolin ability will cause them to fly towards one of the room’s exits, and, indeed, that is the exit that players should use. Notably, there are typically several groups of insects in a room, and players should not hesitate to verify the correct exit by activating a second set of them.
To use Needolin, hold D on a keyboard, Triangle on a PlayStation controller, or Y on an Xbox controller.
Players must now simply repeat this process of locating white insects, activating them with Needolin, and following them through the exit that they take. After traversing several rooms in this fashion, players will enter a poison-filled corridor, and there is a structure, the Exhaust Organ, within it.
