Description

If you’ve played past Skate games, you already know how important manuals are. Manuals are the backbone of stringing combos together and pushing your scores into the thousands. In Skate 4, manuals work a lot like before, but the controls are more sensitive and tied closely to how steady your inputs are. Getting them right takes a little practice, but once you learn how to do a manual in Skate 4, you’ll wonder how you ever played without them.

How to Manual in Skate 4

How to Manual Skate.

A standard manual is performed by balancing on the back two wheels of your board. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how to perform this trick in Skate 4:

  1. Start off by gaining some speed. You need a little momentum to successfully enter and hold a manual.
  2. Gently pull back on the right analog stick. The key here is to be subtle. If you pull the stick back too far or too quickly, you’ll crouch and prepare for an Ollie instead.
  3. Hold your balance. Once you are in the manual, you need to use slight movements of the right stick to maintain your balance. If you start to lean too far forward and the front wheels start to drop, gently pull back a bit on the stick to lift them up. If the board starts to drop down on the back wheels, push the stick forward.

A good way to practice is by heading to a flat, open area of San Vansterdam. Start rolling slowly, pop into a manual, and see how long you can hold it. Increase your speed as you get more comfortable.

How to Nose Manual Skate

The in-game Skatepedia advises players to “Hold Right Stick slightly” for manuals, and that’s the best place to start. Once you can hold a manual consistently, start practicing nose manuals. For a nose manual, the motion is reversed: push the right stick up slightly and hold. Again, it’s all about balance. With practice, you’ll be able to control how high your board tilts.

The true power of manuals comes when you start linking them into combos. To do this, perform your trick as normal, but as you are about to land, position the right stick to the manual or nose manual position and hold it as you land. If timed correctly, you’ll roll straight into a manual instead of stopping your flow. This allows you to transition seamlessly into your next trick.
