As is the case with other EA Sports titles like College Football 26 and EA FC 25, Madden NFL 26 has plenty of game modes for fans to enjoy their favorite sporting pastime. While some of these are strictly solo experiences, a number of them can be enjoyed with a friend, either cooperatively or in a clash to see who comes out on top. In this guide, I’ll explain how to play Madden 26 with friends in the Franchise, Ultimate Team, and Quick Play modes, so you can find the perfect multiplayer experience for you.
If you just want to do a one-off local multiplayer match against a friend or in co-op, select the ‘Quick Play’ option from the main menu. On the following screen, you’ll then be able to select the two teams that’ll battle it out. As long as two controllers are connected, you can then choose to move each one to control each team if you want to play against each other, or on the same team to play co-op against the AI.
Once you’ve selected your teams and sides, confirm your choices, and you’ll be able to tweak any settings before diving into the action.
The Quick Play menu also includes the Pro Bowl mode, where you and a friend can each control the AFC and NFC teams, respectively (or join forces and take on the CPU). There’s also the Superstar Knockout (SSKO) mode for some more fast-paced elimination fun. This can be played with up to five other friends online in a 3v3 mode. There are also 2v2 and 1v1 modes available.
For those wanting to take on a friend online, select the ‘Online H2H’ option from the main menu. After selecting your team for the season, you’ll then be able to select the H2H Play a Friend option. This will then allow you to invite any online friends on your console or EA ID’s friends list.
To play Franchise mode with friends, you first need to create a league and choose the option to create it as an online experience. After this stage, you can then adjust the League Settings after choosing your team and creating your coach. In the League Settings menu, choose to make your Franchise mode private and set a password. This password can then be used by your friends to join your league from the Franchise mode main menu.
Once the league has been set up, share the password with your friends and have them search for your league name by selecting the magnifying glass icon on the ‘Current Franchises’ screen (the first menu that’ll appear after selecting ‘Franchise’ from the main menu). By default, the league name will be your username.
After they have joined the league via the password, they can choose any available team to manage.
Alternatively, once you’ve set up the Franchise mode and have access to the various menus, go to ‘Options,’ and then Members. Here, you can select the team your friend wants to control and press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to bring up the ‘Invite’ option. Select them from your friends list and confirm you want to send the invite.
Your friend will now be able to go to the ‘Accept or decline’ menu on the Current Franchises screen and join your league this way. A friend can’t take part in a fantasy draft with you in Franchise mode, but they can choose to relocate their team if they want to.
Choosing to start Franchise mode offline will prevent you from inviting friends and playing it in multiplayer.
Once you load into Ultimate Team, you’ll have several options across the bottom of the screen. One of these is Play a Friend. Select this, and you can then choose between H2H PAF and Squads PAF.
In H2H PAF, you’ll use your MUT teams to play against your friends to see who comes out victorious. In Squads PAF, you’ll build your team from your squad and then take on your friends. This allows you to experiment a little more with different players and teams, rather than being stuck with your MUT.
Choose the mode you want to play and invite your friend from the list that pops up. Once they’ve accepted the invite, you’ll be able to make any last-minute adjustments before the game begins.
