The Orb Weaver Buggy is a highly mobile, highly dangerous mount in Grounded 2, giving players a taste of what it would be like to ride atop a rampaging spider as it bulldozes its way through the undergrowth of the neighborhood park.
Players looking to unlock the Orb Weaver Buggy in the early game will find themselves disappointed, as, unlike the Red Soldier Ant Buggy, obtaining the rights to ride a personal spider steed is locked behind a decent amount of progression in the main story of Grounded 2.
How to Get an Orb Weaver Buggy in Grounded 2
The Orb Weaver Buggy can only be obtained after players complete the “Networking”main mission in Grounded 2, defeating the Masked Stranger at the very top of the Network Center. Immediately after the boss fight is over, a locked room in the boss arena will open.
Inside, players will find the Network Center TURBO Optical Disk on Sloane’s desk, right next to BURG.L’s detached head. Inserting this Optical Disk into a Ranger Station will unlock the Orb Weaver Buggy recipe for 5,000 Raw Science.
Don’t forget to pick up the Sizzling Key and the Charred Recipe from Sloane’s desk as well, as these items unlock Spicy Coaltana, one of the most powerful weapons in Grounded 2.
The Orb Weaver Buggy can be obtained by incubating the Orb Weaver Egg in the Hatchery for 24 in-game hours, a structure that players will have already unlocked when obtaining their Ant Buggy. You’ll need the following materials to do so:
Building a Spider Nest is optional but recommended, as it allows players to store their Orb Weaver Buggy in their base as needed.
Where to Find an Orb Weaver Egg
The Orb Weaver Egg can be found in multiple spots throughout Brookhollow Park. Here are some easy-to-access locations:
Below the Lamp Post to the east of the Picnic Table.
Underneath Headless BURG.L in Snackbar Front.
In a tunnel underneath the Pine Tree northeast of the Ice Cream Cart.
The easiest location to get an Orb Weaver Egg from is the Lamp Post, as multiple eggs are out in the open, and if you time yourself right, you’ll avoid all spiders in the area. The Red Soldier Ant Buggy has the ability to carry an Orb Weaver Egg like a Grass Plank or Weed Stem.
It is highly recommended that you use your Ant Buggy to carry the egg instead of hauling it on your own, as the Ant’s faster speed allows it to throw off pursuers chasing after you.
How to Use an Orb Weaver Buggy
The Orb Weaver Buggy is a combat mount, meant to be used in conflicts. It’s more durable than the Red Ant Soldier and does more damage, though not by a lot. It has the ability to throw spider webs to trap enemies, making it easy to pick them off from a distance. It can also perform an Intimidation Screech that scares away small enemies and attracts larger creatures.
Additionally, the Orb Weaver Buggy instantly kills all small creatures like Weevils, Aphids, and Mites by running over them. This is extremely useful against O.R.C. Weevils that appear during MIX.R events, as they deal massive damage by exploding and their large numbers makes picking them off individually difficult.
The Orb Weaver Buggy is also immune to webbing from other spiders and has the ability to climb web bridges, allowing players to access certain shortcuts on the map. Like the Red Soldier Ant Buggy, the Orb Weaver also has access to Gather Mode, though it cannot carry items like the Ant can. It is also unable to chop through blocked entrances; you’ll need the Ant for that.
