Pirates of the Caribbean is one of Disney’s most successful franchises, with the previous five movies having grossed over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. It’s just a hit by Disney standards; Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the highest-grossing franchises in cinematic history. Therefore, it’s not a surprise that there are a lot of rumors swirling about a potential sixth movie being made in the future.

While nothing has been officially confirmed at this point, the franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has teased that plans are in place for another swashbuckling adventure, and some familiar faces will be along for the ride. Pirates of the Caribbean has no shortage of iconic characters, and audiences will be keen to see many of those old favorites make their return.

Jack Sparrow

He’s The Face Of The Pirates Of The Caribbean Franchise

It’s almost impossible to imagine a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Johnny Depp involved in some capacity, and fans would be disappointed if that were the case for the sixth film. Jack Sparrow is the face of this entire franchise and is one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history; therefore, it seems like a no-brainer to bring him back. Of course, the reality is that there may be some difficulties with that due to the legal issues Depp and Disney have gone through, and there are certainly some bridges to be mended on that front. But from a story perspective, audiences will be anticipating seeing the charismatic pirate in this movie.

Will Turner

There Is A Lot More Story To Tell With Him

Will Turner was the original protagonist, and while he ended up cursed with the Flying Dutchman, that is no longer the case. This will allow his character to be used in a similar way to how he was originally, which is something that Disney should explore. Orlando Bloom has been open about wanting to return to the franchise, which is a positive sign for the character’s potential return. But after so long away from Elizabeth, his son, and his fellow pirates, it feels like there is a lot of exploration that can be done with Will.

Henry Turner

It’s Time To Reunite Him With His Father

Henry Turner in Pirates

Henry Turner stepped into one of the lead roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and if the franchise is to return, it would make sense to continue building the world around him. He’s a younger character who could potentially be the lead role for years to come if Disney can get the story right, and after finding the Trident of Poseidon to break his father’s curse, it feels obvious that they’d be shown together. A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie could feature Will and Henry Turner sailing the seas as father and son. It’s the natural story progression for the franchise if it’s going to follow along from the previous entry, and that’s something that people want to see play out.

Elizabeth Swann

She’s The Original Leading Lady

Elizabeth Swann

Elizabeth Swann was one of the main characters in the original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and no matter how hard Disney tried to replace her in the following movies, they’ve never quite cracked it. That is why Kiera Knightley’s character should be brought back for another movie, allowing the Turner family story to continue. Seeing how Elizabeth’s life has turned out would be intriguing, and dragging her back into the pirate world at this stage in her life would provide some interesting moments that could provide a lot of fun. While she doesn’t have to be the main character this time around, having her involved is important to a lot of fans.

Carina Barbossa

She Provides A Strong Romantic Angle

Carina Barbossa in Pirates

Pirates of the Caribbean might be about high-seas adventures, but there’s always been a romantic element to the story. That was originally told through Will and Elizabeth, but now the options are open for that to happen via Carina Barbossa and Henry Turner. That has already been explored to some degree, but it can be taken even further in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, especially if Will and Elizabeth return. The fact that she’s Captain Barbossa’s daughter also provides a great throwback to the original movie, and instantly means many of the legacy characters will have a small connection to her. While she’s a scientist, seeing her slowly embrace her life as a pirate would be interesting, especially if she becomes close to Elizabeth, as she was forced into a similar journey.

Anamaria

Zoe Saldana Can Bring Some Box Office Value

Anamaria in Pirates of caribbean

Many people forget that Zoe Saldana was involved in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as she only appeared in the first movie. However, her character, Anamaria, would make sense to bring back due to Saldana’s growth as an actress. Since her role as a pirate, she has gone on to be involved in some massive franchises, such as Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, where she has taken on key roles and proven herself as a Hollywood lead.

Adding Saldana back into the cast would feel like an exciting decision, as she could now be promoted to a lead role. Plus, because Anamaria hasn’t been in the story since the original movie, Disney really could take her character anywhere, as there’s a blank canvas to work with, which means the creative team would be slightly less restricted than with other characters.

Joshamee Gibbs

The Original Sidekick Can Offer Humor And Heart

Joshamee Gibbs

Joshamee Gibbs is one of the best-known characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and his lovable personality is something fans would want to see. Ever loyal to Captain Jack Sparrow, if he were to return, it’s not hard to imagine Gibbs being a few steps behind him, trailing along. He can be on hand to provide a few comedic lines, and while he might not have the level of responsibility he’s had in previous films, even just a few scenes with Gibbs would please fans.

Davy Jones

He Should Be The Main Villain Again

There have been many brilliant villains in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but Davy Jones is the one who stands out the most. He was intense, emotional, and scary, providing some fantastic visuals at the same time, and audiences would more than welcome him back as the lead villain for a sixth instalment in this franchise. That’s something that was even teased in the post-credits scene of Dead Men Tell No Tales. Now, Disney needs to follow up on that and showcase Davy Jones once again. He’s an intimidating figure, and the idea that the Turner family got their happily ever after is something that likely wouldn’t sit right with him, setting up a simple but effective storyline of revenge in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
