Killing Floor 3: Damage Type Cheat Sheet
Description
Killing Floor 3 is all about gratuitous violence, but instead of following the relatively mindless run-and-gun gameplay of its predecessors, combat in this game involves more variables. Apart from the Zed hitzone mechanics, players now also have various damage types to grapple with.
While you can definitely get away with just shooting Zeds in the face with whatever’s in your hands, taking advantage of the different damage types can make your life much easier, especially on Killing Floor 3’s highest difficulties. Here’s a guide that covers each of these damage types as well as their most ideal use-cases.

All Damage Types in KF3
There are several elemental and physical damage types in the game, and depending on what they are, they can be either Effective, Neutral, or Ineffective against certain enemy/hitzone types. Most Killing Floor 3 weapons can be modified to deal a different damage type, and it’s often best to have multiple variants of the same weapon that fire different types of ammunition.

Best Damage Type in Killing Floor 3
If you’re looking for something that’s good against everything, then Force damage might just be the best option. It’s either Effective or Neutral against most KF3 Zeds. Force damage is great at breaking Fleshpound parts, though it will somewhat struggle at taking down Scrakes. For everything else, it’s quite good.
Alternatively, Heat is an amazing choice for most enemies. Not only does it deal good damage against Flesh, Zedtech, and Armor, but its damage-over-time effect makes it effective at hit-and-run tactics. However, keep in mind that Husks and the Chimera boss are resistant to Heat damage.
How to Change Weapon Damage Type in KF3
You can change your weapon’s damage type by equipping Ammo mods for them through the weapon customization system. Go to the Armory in the Stronghold, then craft an Ammo mod of your choice.
Not all weapons can have their damage type altered, though. Firebug guns (except the Dragon’s Breath) and special weapons like the Ifrit do not have any mods that change their damage type.
