Description

Guntouchables, which was free on Steam for its first 24 hours after launch, has been claimed by over 2,000,000 users, but has only peaked at 16,000 concurrent players so far. The game was a surprise limited-time addition to the Steam free-to-keep roster in August, prompting many users to claim it without hesitation.

Guntouchables Multiplayer match

It’s uncommon for Steam to give away day-one titles. However, it seems Guntouchables‘ developer used this strategy to put the game in the spotlight and build its name. While that goal appears to have been achieved, the game hasn’t necessarily benefited from it.

2,000,000 Players Have Snagged Guntouchables for Free, but the Concurrent Player Count Remains Low

Developer Game Swing has revealed that Guntouchables‘ Steam giveaway led to over 2,000,000 users claiming the game for free. In a thank-you note, the developer called the free-to-keep promotion a “big bet” for the team and said it’s thrilled the risk paid off. However, the catch is that this milestone hasn’t resulted in a strong performance, as the co-op roguelite has only reached a peak of 16,000 concurrent players. In other words, just 0.8% of those who claimed Guntouchables on Steam have actually played it. The other 99.2% haven’t logged into the game even once.

Those curious about Guntouchables should know it’s a co-op roguelite horde shooter for up to four players. The team’s goal is to slaughter mutants during each mission while completing specific objectives, such as rescue or restoration tasks. The game also features different classes with unique special skills and lets players customize their builds on the fly using upgrades and power-ups they find.

As for good news, Guntouchables‘ development roadmap is still active. The game will get its first major post-launch update in September, adding a playable and upgradable lobby called Bunker. According to the developer, the Bunker will let players create matches while waiting for others to join, which is expected to improve the co-op experience on Steam. After the Bunker update, Guntouchables will receive even more patches that will bring new missions, enemies, challenges, classes, cosmetics, and game modes.

Guntouchables currently has a “Positive” review score on Steam, with most reviewers noting its potential as an enjoyable roguelite. However, they also highlight issues like the lack of quality-of-life features and the pointless AI companions, which hold the game back. Luckily, the developer has already reached a massive audience, as Guntouchables sits in millions of players’ libraries. It still has a chance to attract more players if it continues updating the game and listening to its community.
