PlayStation Plus could be set to get yet another critically-acclaimed new game in the weeks ahead. Earlier this year, former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida heaped praise on Blue Prince, describing it as a potential Game of the Year contender months before it came out. When Blue Prince launched, it turns out many agreed with Yoshida’s assessment. Blue Prince earned widespread critical acclaim and remains one of the year’s highest-rated new game releases. While Blue Prince is certainly worth the price of admission, PS5 gamers signed up for the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus or higher are free to check it out without paying anything beyond what they already do for their subscription.
Yoshida’s praise built up significant expectations for Blue Prince, and now that it has launched and lived up to the hype, it adds extra weight to the former PlayStation exec’s opinions on upcoming game releases. As it so happens, another game that Yoshida has praised is coming to the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus in the very near future, and so subscribers should mark their calendars accordingly.
The Extra tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service is on an impressive streak that hopefully continues.
Back at Summer Game Fest, Yoshida described the upcoming Sword of the Sea as his favorite game at the Play Days event. While that endorsement doesn’t carry quite the same gravitas as describing Blue Prince as a Game of the Year contender, it still should make PS Plus subscribers pay attention. Sword of the Sea will be joining the Extra tier of PlayStation Plus on Tuesday, August 19, so subscribers don’t have to wait much longer to find out if it lives up to the hype.
Shuhei Yoshida Has Praised Sword of the Sea
For those unfamiliar with the game, Sword of the Sea can be described as a stylish blend of Journey and Tony Hawk. The game lets players explore a vibrant world with the help of their hoversword, usable in both combat and traversal. What’s been shown so far looks very impressive, but time will tell if it lives up to expectations.
When Sword of the Sea is added to PlayStation Plus on August 19, it will continue a three-month streak that the service started when FBC: Firebreak was added back in June. Day one games are not a monthly guarantee for PS Plus Extra, so it’s great for subscribers that they were treated to FBC: Firebreak in June, Abiotic Factor in July, and soon Sword of the Sea in August. We don’t know yet if September will have its own day one PS Plus Extra game or not, but more information on that front should come in a couple of months.
