Monster Hunter Wilds will receive additional updates to address ongoing PC performance issues, with patches planned beyond this winter. While the game managed to pull in nearly 1.4 million concurrent Steam players at launch, Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a major downturn in PC users, due in part to the title’s many profound issues on the platform.
Selling more than 8 million copies in its first three days, Monster Hunter Wilds became Capcom’s fastest-selling game to date, with players applauding the title’s story and vast open world. Unfortunately, PC players have faced an uphill battle, as even those with more powerful setups have struggled with massive performance issues since the game’s launch. It was recently announced that the next Monster Hunter Wilds update would be released ahead of schedule, bumping it from a September launch to August 13. While this patch will include some new content and more improvements across the board, those on PC will need to wait a while for a truly smooth gaming experience, as according to the title’s director, many more performance updates are on the way.
Monster Hunter Wilds PC Performance Updates Planned for Winter and Beyond
According to the game’s director, Yuya Tokuda (and reported by VGC), Monster Hunter Wilds will continue to receive PC performance improvements in future updates. While some issues were fixed in June’s Title Update 2, Tokuda explains that reducing CPU strain without making the game’s performance even worse is incredibly difficult. “We are aware that some players may be concerned about the potential strain on their PCs, particularly those using CPUs known to have stability issues,” the director said. According to him, the team plans to address CPU load reduction in the game’s fourth title update, which is scheduled to be released this winter. Many are hoping to see positive changes sooner rather than later, as in June, Monster Hunter Wilds fell to an Overwhelmingly Negative rating on Steam.
Despite its successful launch, sales of Monster Hunter Wilds have declined rapidly, selling only 477,000 copies in the past quarter. While some decline is to be expected, this dramatic dropoff is likely due to ongoing player feedback, with the game’s poor performance and lack of new content updates driving many away from Capcom’s newest entry in the action RPG franchise.
In early July, Capcom teased more about Monster Hunter Wilds‘ Title Update 3, which is slated to be released in late September. The patch will add another monster to the title and introduce a new limited-time Festival of Accord seasonal event, though details are sparse at the time of writing. On top of improving PC performance, fresh content is at the top of player wishlists, and many are hoping that Wilds can see a dramatic comeback after its ongoing struggles are finally put to rest.
