A new leak has hinted at a bunch of new details about the long-rumored Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake. These rumors could indicate far more changes in the alleged Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake than many fans might be expecting.
For years, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has been hailed as one of the long-running series’ high points. It provided an excellent mix of the pirate theme with the typical Assassin’s Creed formula, offering players something fresh upon its 2013 release. While the sailing mechanic would return in future Assassin’s Creed games, it’s arguably in Black Flag that it was at its peak. Now, almost 12 years after its initial release, rumors of a remake continue to rear their head.
A new YouTube video from French outlet Jeux Video Magazine claims to shed light on some massive details about the rumored Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake, with a translation over on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit from user ZamnBoii. First, and perhaps most controversially, the video claims that the gameplay will become more akin to the RPG formula found in more recent AC titles, with combat and leveled gear reflecting this. It also allegedly uses the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, which was used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is claimed to allow for no loading screens between ship and land. Despite this, Jeux Video Magazine believes that the map is not bigger in the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake.
Another controversial element is that this latest rumor claims that Assassin’s Creed‘s modern-day storyline has been removed in the Black Flag remake. Not that it was particularly substantial in the original Black Flag, but those who enjoy it will be hoping this particular piece of information doesn’t come to fruition. Jeux Video Magazine mentions that an early 2026 release window is currently targeted, but it could still slip beyond this to late 2026. As with any leak, it’s essential to take this all with a big pinch of salt, especially considering Ubisoft is yet to even confirm the game’s existence.
Over the past year, there have been various leaks indicating that the Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake is in development at Ubisoft. That said, it’s unclear when (or if) the company plans to announce the game. If it does turn out that the fan-favorite title is getting a modern remake, then it would surely be welcomed with open arms by the Assassin’s Creed community.
