Dragon Age: Companions With The Best Stories, Ranked
Many Dragon Age companions offer great stories, but some tales are arguably better than others.
The heroes come in all stripes, from bold and brash to kind and caring, ready to raise their sword or staff against the dangers threatening Thedas. And of course, among them are some real charmers, on both sides of the war. Heroes and villains can be charming, and these are the most beguiling among them.
8
Leliana
From Sweet Songstress To Cool Spy
Bards are an interesting part of Dragon Age lore, as they are more than singers plucking at the strings of a lute, singing maudlin melodies about love or jaunty upbeat tavern tunes, but rather they play games of political intrigue, pulling at different strings altogether. One might never know, talking to Leliana, as this sweet rogue has kindness in spades, and even sings a lovely song to the camp during one of the Warden’s talks with her.
Inquisition shows a different side to Leliana, where she embraces her role as spymaster, a far cry from the naive and sweet woman players knew from Origins, but in either case, there are huge draws to Leliana’s character, just in different ways. The old Leliana is endearing, and the new, more jaded one is almost awe-inspiring. Leliana just goes to show there are multiple ways that one can be classed as charismatic.
7
Morrigan
Though Mean-Spirited, There Is An Undeniable Allure To Morrigan
A key character that recurs throughout the series, Morrigan is one of the meaner characters in the game. Being raised by Flemeth in a swamp would likely do that for anyone, but this mean streak might just be part of her charm. She isn’t just a stereotypical high-school bully-like character, and her capacity for ill-doing is often rooted in pragmatism, and in the end, The Warden might even be able to thaw this Ice Queen’s heart.

Dragon Age: The Strongest Mages In The Franchise
The Mages of Thedas have accomplished some impressive feats of magic over the years, but the strongest Dragon Age mages are in a class of their own.
A romantic option and a character players can build a strong familial relationship with, Morrigan isn’t completely allergic to kindness and compassion, especially if the player goes out of their way to show it to her with gifts and listens to the stories of her harsh upbringing. But even when she is acting like a jerk to certain other party members, her tongue is so wickedly sharp that players can’t help but laugh and love the absolute zingers that are all part of Morrigan’s unique brand of charm.
6
Dorian Pavus
His Wit & Confidence Are Unparalleled
Inquisition boasts a wealth of new faces teaming up to save Thedas from the brink of destruction, sourcing warriors, rogues, and mages to fight against Corypheus. One such mage is Dorian Pavus, a favorite among many fans who rejoiced at their reunion in Veilguard.
As a companion players can get to know, even to an intimate level should they play a male Inquisitor, what they will find is a man full of wit, flirtations, and confidence that are all dialed up to charismatic levels. Some may say he is a little cocky in these regards, but Dorian isn’t arrogant, never seriously talking down to the Inquisitor. His traits are nothing short of charismatic, as many of his friends and paramours are sure to agree.
5
Isabela
Always Exuding Confidence
First appearing briefly as an NPC in Dragon Age: Origins, Isabela found her fame among fans in Dragon Age 2, where the pirate captain became a companion for Hawke. First exploding onto the scene with a flurry of knife-blows and absolute butt-kicking, she instantly marked herself as a charismatic and likable character.
This first impression is true to Isabela’s character, as in every scene she appears in, she exudes confidence as though she is that exact trait in human form, and confidence is a key part of being charismatic. Also, her relationships with other characters, specifically that with Merrill, are purely endearing, and allow players to see a softer side of Isabela that does not diminish her charm factor but instead dials it up.
4
Mabari
Who Doesn’t Love Dogs?
The best boy in all of Thedas is without a doubt the mabari. A beloved warhound that players can enjoy the company of in both Origins and Dragon Age 2, players might not be able to sit down and have a deep conversation with him, but their bond will be unbreakable anyway.
Dogs are one of the most universally liked creatures of all time, thanks to their adorable nature and their natural love and loyalty for their owner, and in Dragon Age, that is no different. The mabari doesn’t need to do anything other than exist for players to immediately be charmed by him, and even the companions aren’t immune to his puppy eyes, as they often talk with the mabari themselves, even though the conversation is mostly one-sided.
3
Lucanis Dellamorte
This Assassin Is Also A Thief Of Hearts
A dashing debonair, it is no surprise Lucanis made quite a rumble among the community, who immediately found themselves falling for Lucanis’s charms. Though an assassin under the employ of the Antivan Crows, Lucanis is far from a cold-blooded killer, as he is also a well-spoken man with an appreciation for coffee, something which is likely to be hugely relatable among fans.
Though he harbors a spirit within him by the name of Spite that could raise some alarm bells, he would not be the first possessed character Dragon Age fans have been willing to smooch, and if anything, Spite is just a bonus with the humorous way he speaks, especially about Rook. Almost every part of Lucanis is charming, from his demeanor to his personality, to his looks, and especially his accent.
2
Alistair Theirin
His Wit & Innocence Make Him One Of The Most Charismatic Romantic Choices
In Dragon Age: Origins, the player character will get to know their adventuring party quite well on their travels to gather an army to face against the Blight, with one of them being fellow Warden and the illegitimate royal, Alistair Theirin. He instantly makes himself a likable character with the level of sass and humor he levies in his conversation, but time with Alistair will show there is more than sarcasm.

Games That Let You Play As A King Or Queen
Playing as royalty can be a blast. These games offer the best experiences as a king or queen.
At his core, Alistair is genuinely sweet and romantic, two traits that make him one of the most charismatic characters in the game. Some of his romantic-aligned dialogue is pure swoon-inducing, and the fact that Cousland players can marry him and become Queen is just like something out of a fairytale. Even outside of his romance, Alistair’s characteristics are still largely endearing to behold, aside from his friction with a certain magic-wielding party member.
1
Varric Tethras
Steals The Show Every Time
Varric is often labeled by fans as the best character in the entire series, and one that fans desperately wanted to woo. Though they never got this wish, plenty were beguiled by Varric’s overflowing charisma, which was on full display in every scene of the games he appeared in.
Having a busy career as a companion in Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition, and as a key NPC is Veilguard, Varric has changed over the years, but there is one thing that has remained consistent: his charm factor. Everyone likes Varric, as he makes an effort to get along with everyone and makes it look easy. Even the most stubborn characters find themselves not immune to his charms, which are just as skillful as his aim with his beloved Bianca.
