The year is not only moving along nicely, but it might genuinely be remembered as one of the best in anime history. Seriously, each season has been packed with brilliant shows, and the 2025 romance anime lineup has been particularly great. If you adore love, then you have been enjoying a buffet for months, indulging in satisfying treats like I Have A Crush At Work, Kowloon Generic Romance, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity.
While sequels like My Dress-Up Darling and Dandadan have hogged the limelight to an extent, 2025’s new romance anime have made their mark as well, with each season delivering plenty of options. To make it as simple as possible to keep track of all of the year’s love stories, we’ve listed them below, splitting them by their seasons.
Completely new anime are the focus; however, sequels are highlighted in a separate section. Movies are not included. Also, no donghua, OVAs, or ONAs; just series that are airing as part of each quarter’s lineup. Finally, this article will be updated every month to reflect changes in the seasonal lineups.
Updated on August 11, 2025 by Mark Sammut: The Summer 2025 season has been all-around fantastic, and the new romance anime have been mostly great. The season’s section has been updated, and we’ve also expanded the Fall 2025 lineup.
Winter 2025 Romance Anime
I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!?
Blending supernatural elements with comedy and some romance, I’m Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? follows a very ordinary guy as he is dragged into the world of ninjas by Shizuri. While talented and deadly, the latter is also 100% a NEET, meaning she tends to spend her “off” time playing games and generally refusing to go out.
Prioritizing fanservice, this series is a lighthearted romp that never takes itself seriously. Romance is part of the equation, but it is not the selling point. The anime is way more driven by silly hijinks and ecchi content.
One of the better 2025 romance anime, I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class is notorious for having polarizing characters, particularly its female protagonist. That said, the source material is funny, and that has rubbed off on the anime. If anything, the adaptation’s fantastic voice acting elevates the material, adding a touch of cuteness to Akane’s tsundere antics.
I’m Getting Married to a Girl I Hate in My Class is a better pick for comedy than romance fans, but the show should not leave the latter starving either. While they cannot seem to decide if they hate or love each other, Akane and Saito have great chemistry and banter, working well as both a comedy duo and a fledgling couple.
I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons
A more fantasy-laden romance, I Want to Escape from Princess Lessons is all about a duchess who has been tied to a prince, despite her lack of enthusiasm at the prospect of becoming a princess. Despite making her disinterest clear, Leticia finds herself constantly having to go through lessons to learn how to become a princess, with Prince Clarke refusing to let her go.
The female lead is likable enough, but the content can be rather uncomfortable. Clarke forces Leticia to remain his fiancé, and she is very clearly against the thought of the relationship. However, her opinion slowly starts to change, but it is hard to shake the feeling that Stockholm Syndrome might have set in.
Okitsura: Fell in Love with an Okinawan Girl, but I Just Wish I Know What She’s Saying
A slice of life romance, Okitsura is all about Okinawa culture, presented through young love. Teruaki moves to the city but struggles with the dialect, even when talking to the girl that he genuinely likes (Hina). To allow them to communicate, they turn to a mutual friend (Kana) for assistance.
Okitsura is more slice of life than romance, although Teruaki does not hide his interest in Hina. They are not currently a couple, and they could very well remain that way for the entire season. Kana also has a crush on Teruaki, and she is a far more interesting character than Hina. Kana is essentially the main protagonist, with quite a few episodes being told from her perspective. Consequently, she feels like the end goal rather than Hina, especially since the latter is not that interesting.
I Have A Crush At Work
Also known as I Have a Crush at Work, Can You Keep a Secret? offers a refreshing change of pace by focusing on adults rather than high school students. Yui and Masugu are deeply in love and cannot resist their natural pull, which proves to be an issue since they work at a place where romance between colleagues is forbidden.
The manga has a pretty positive reputation, and this 2025 romance anime is a great adaptation, blending humor and wholesome moments well. Yui and Masugu are essentially leading two lives, and their attempts to make them work are entertaining and cute. Frustratingly, the anime is not available on a Western streaming platform, limiting its reach significantly.
Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms
Now, here is a 2025 romance anime that could be divisive. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms revolves around Mona, a girl who can make any guy fall in love with her. She is extremely popular at school, being treated as something of an idol. However, while she pretends to be chipper and bubbly, she is far more cynical than she lets on. When a new transfer student arrives who seems unmoved by her presence, Mona makes it her mission to force Medaka to fall in love with her.
Mona falls for Medaka pretty much instantly, and her interest strengthens the more he rejects her. On his part, the boy’s reaction is solely based on the fact that he is set to become a monk, so he has to resist earthly desires. Mona does not make that easy, often going well beyond reason to try and get Medaka to blush and fall for her. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms can be a bit one-note since so many segments follow a similar structure and end with essentially the same punchline.
Honey Lemon Soda
One of the biggest romance anime of 2025, Honey Lemon Soda shares a few similarities with Kimi ni Todoke. Both shows revolve around romances involving bullied/isolated girls and popular guys, with their relationships helping the former to come out of her shell.
Honey Lemon Soda, the manga, has been around for roughly a decade, becoming a minor staple of the shojo romance scene. As J.C.Staff handled the adaptation, the anime has high production value, delivering warm animation that amplifies the central love story. Otherwise, the series is fairly typical for its genre and demographic.
Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You
Anyway, I’m Falling in Love with You falls under a rather polarizing romance subgenre: Reverse harem. As always, the story follows a girl who ends up right in the middle of a group of guys; this time around, the latter are connected via their school’s swimming club. The anime throws out a few interesting twists and focuses a bit more than usual on character development, so the anime could strike a chord with romance and harem fans.
Spring 2025 Romance Anime
Please Put Them On, Takamine-san
One of three Spring 2025 romance anime that leaned heavily into ecchi content, Please Put Them On, Takamine-san is an acquired taste, to say the least. Koushi learns that his “perfect” classmate, Takane, has the power to reverse time by removing her underwear. Yes, that is the plot. After catching her in the act, Koushi is blackmailed by Takane and is forced to do whatever she wants.
Romance eventually develope between the two, although Please Put Them On, Takamine-san‘s priority is fanservice. Surprisingly, Crunchyroll has mostly uncensored episodes (well, at first, anyway), which is pretty unusual for the streaming service. Koushi and especially Takane do not leave particularly great first impressions, but they improve slightly as the story progresses.
Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?
Himari and Yuu have been close friends for a long time, and they do not have much desire to take things to the next level. However, they make a promise to marry each other if they remain single. When Yuu reconnects with a former crush, Himari has to suddenly examine her feelings for her friend.
Based on a light novel, Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive is a romance anime with a love triangle angle. Surprisingly, this was probably the genre’s most polarizing series of Spring 2025, largely due to Himari. She has shown herself to be quite manipulative and self-centered, which makes her interesting but not particularly endearing. The anime also introduces a few other very unlikable characters, most of whom seem to exist specifically to make Himari seem better in comparison.
Arguably the most exciting new romance anime of Spring 2025, Kowloon Generic Romance envisions a sci-fi world that has mostly left the past behind. However, there is an exception: Kowloon, a city designed around old Hong Kong. This slice of nostalgia happens to be home to Reiko and Hajime, who work in the same place.
While they generally get along, an incident causes their relationship to take an unexpected turn, setting the stage for not only a romance but also a touch of mystery. Kowloon Generic Romance has two charming protagonists, a strong sense of mystery, and a unique setting. While fairly slow by most standards, this 2025 romance anime is atmospheric and fascinating, all the while featuring some great world-building.
The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl
A Spring 2025 romance anime that caters to fantasy, harem, and comedy fans, The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl follows Sophia, a girl who is super strong due to being blessed by the Gorilla God. Despite not having any interest in a life of combat or attention, her strength makes her impossible to ignore, especially by the royal knights. This anime is technically Kachigarasu’s debut show as the studio formed toward the end of 2023; however, the company previously operated as Encourage Films.
OK, Witch Watch is kind of a weird one. Despite having all the ingredients to qualify as a romance, the series prioritizes comedy above everything else, to the point that it can only be recommended to people craving shows in that genre.
Still, romcom fans might get a kick out of Nico and Mori’s dynamic, with the former’s good-natured silliness juxtaposing well with the latter’s exasperated maturity. After completing her witch training, Nico returns home and takes on her childhood friend, Mori, as her familiar. Witch Watch is a blast.
Yandere Dark Elf: She Chased Me All the Way From Another World!
Although technically “romance,” Yandere Dark Elf is 100% only for people craving a fanservice-heavy series that caters to adult audiences. Despite the archetype mentioned in the title, this series is relatively “tame,” in the sense that Mariabelle, the dark elf, will not spend a lot of time trying to kill other girls or the target of her affection.
After completing his isekai adventure, Hinata reawakens on Earth and, consequently, returns to his normal life. (Un)fortunately, his peace does not last long as a friend from his past life teleports right into his living room. Hinata now has to live with Mariabelle.
Hide! Makina-san!!
Spring 2025’s final ecchi romance anime, Hide! Makina-san!! throws in a sci-fi twist by featuring a robot girl. Not only does Makina live up to her name, but her programming specializes in promiscuous behavior. She ends up moving in with Eita, a guy who is not equipped to deal with Makina’s forward behavior. However, he knows a thing or two about mecha.
The Shiunji Family Children
By the same author responsible for Rent-a-Girlfriend, The Shiunji Family Children might be an easier recommendation for harem rather than romance fans, but the story certainly fits within the genre as well. After living together for years, Shiunji and his sisters are told that they are only step-siblings, which (apparently) opens the door for romance. While not as popular as Rent-a-Girlfriend, The Shiunji Family Children has a more positive reputation, even if its slightly incestuous angle might put off some people. The anime has been OK so far, but it is solely for harem fans.
The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom
The Too-Perfect Saint asks whether there is such a thing as, well, too perfect. As the eponymous saint, Philia is trained to fix everyone’s problems. However, her perfection turns off her fiancé, Prince Julius, who decides to sell her off to another kingdom.
Once there, Philia gradually learns that she can live for herself and not just everyone else, all the while forming a bond with Prince Oswald. This anime is pretty good, with the story splitting its time between Philia and her even more interesting sister. While part of the equation, romance is not the anime’s only reason for existing.
Summer 2025 Romance Anime
Watari-kun’s ****** Is About to Collapse
Naoto has a reputation for being a siscon, but his dedication to his sister is threatened when an old “friend” named Satsuki comes back into his life, bringing buried secrets into the spotlight. While the premise paints a thriller-esque picture, Watari-kun’s ****** Is about to Collapse is not that dark of a manga. This adaptation is one of the more surprising of 2025, as the source material ended in 2023 after releasing chapters for nearly a decade.
The show is mostly just fine. Expect love triangles, misunderstandings, light yandere elements, and slightly trashy elements. Satsuki does not come across as particularly likable, which is fine as she is meant to have a somewhat antagonistic personality.
April Showers Bring May Flowers
Hana has a low opinion of herself, at least when it comes to her physical appearance. However, that perception is challenged when a popular classmate, Yosuke, shows interest in her. Based on a seinen manga that produced more than 70 volumes before ending in 2022, April Showers Bring May Flowers has a unique female protagonist, at least going by the romance genre’s typical output. The source material is relatively highly regarded, and Silver Link has not been a bad choice for the adaptation. Honestly, April Showers Bring May Flowers biggest issue is that it isn’t airing on something like Crunchyroll, which makes it easy to miss. I sometimes even forget that it is airing, despite overall enjoying it.
Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex
A baron’s down-on-her-luck daughter is sent to marry a noble in place of her sister, setting the stage for an unexpected romance between two strangers. Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex debuted as a novel before receiving a light novel version, the latter of which has produced eight volumes so far. A josei manga adaptation is also ongoing, so this story has enjoyed a fair amount of success already.
Getting started with a decent few episodes, Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex should be a fine fantasy romance, even if it might struggle to stand out from the crowd due to this subgenre being a bit overexposed by this point.
Cultural Exchange With a Game Centre Girl
A crane game employee helps an English-speaking foreign girl win a prize, starting a misunderstanding that could lead to romance. Hirokazu Yasuhara’s shonen manga is simple, enjoyable fluff, with cute and slightly awkward chemistry between the two leads. Honestly, I’m enjoying this one more as a slice of life anime set in an arcade rather than a romance, mainly because the age difference between the protagonists makes that route pretty awkward.
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
One of the most highly anticipated 2025 romance anime, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity is based on a beloved and popular manga that has been going strong since 2021. The story revolves around two gender-specific high schools that exist next to each other and have a less-than-great relationship, largely due to Chidori being known for delinquent boys and Kikyo for wealthy elite girls. However, Rintarou and Kaoruko might try to break through the social barrier separating the schools.
So far, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity has been nothing short of brilliant, telling an adorable romance driven by two characters who have instant chemistry. The tension between the schools is well-done, but arguably distracts from Chidori and Kikyo’s cute relationship. Just let these two be together as much as possible.
While The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity debuted on July 6, 2025, in Japan, the North American version has been delayed.
There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless…
Girls love anime are so infrequent that any new show needs to be celebrated, even if the genre does not have a particularly great track record. Putting aside subtext that rarely amounts to anything, anime that actively explore a same-sex romance have been almost non-existent during 2025. Fortunately, the second half of the year should be an improvement, and There’s No Freaking Way I’ll be Your Lover! Unless… is pretty good.
Renako struggles to make friends, so she is pretty excited when she connects with Mai. However, when the latter confesses that she wants to be more than just best friends, Renako has to reconsider their relationship.
Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze
This one might hit the mark more with people craving a harem or comedy, but romance fans should still enjoy Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze. After his mother’s passing, Yuu moves in with the Mikadono family, and he has to learn to get along with three very talented girls who excel in different areas.
While not naturally gifted, Yuu plans to ensure that his new family life is a positive experience. Although fairly notorious for moving at a glacial pace, the source material does a great job with all four main characters, allowing them to blossom as individuals and potential love interests. The adaptation has been rock-solid, and Yuu is comfortably the best part of this harem. To be honest, this anime barely qualifies as a romance, but I think it still warrants a recommendation.
With Vengeance, Sincerely, Your Broken Saintess
Slightly reminiscent of The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom, With Vengeance, Sincerely, Your Broken Saintess is a fantasy-based romance that has a fairly dark premise. Lua is a healer, but her ability comes with the caveat that she has to take on any wounds that she fixes. This shortcoming is not only dangerous, but has also turned her into something of a laughingstock who gets constantly bullied. Fortunately, Lua can rely on her close friend, Arianne, for support; unfortunately, the latter is not as wholesome as she seems.
Lua’s main romantic partner is Prince Sven, although romance should not be the story’s only focus. The premise is quite fascinating and has the potential to result in a pretty intense character-driven drama, but the anime has not been great so far.
Solo Camping for Two
After receiving a live-action TV series earlier in 2025, Yudai Debata’s manga has been adapted into an anime, with SynergySP handling the adaptation. The studio has been around for decades, but its most recent outings have been relatively divisive. Hopefully, Solo Camping for Two will be a success story.
Now, the concept of following two characters while they go camping has plenty of potential, and it might conjure up memories of Laid-Back Camp. Solo Camping for Two is primarily slice of life, although there is a romance aspect since the story revolves almost entirely around Gen and Shizuku’s relationship.
Fall 2025 Romance Anime
A Star Brighter Than The Sun, My Awkward Senpai, & More
At this point, Fall 2025’s romance anime lineup should have mostly taken shape, and it looks set to be one of the most packed of the year. While it will be difficult to surpass Summer 2025, the upcoming season has quite a few highly anticipated shows that should get hearts pumping.
Studio Kai’s A Star Brighter Than the Sun should be delightful, and the same can be said for With You, Our Love Will Make It Through. If you prefer your romance to come with a healthy helping of fantasy, The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess, Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!, and The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King should be more than capable of satisfying that desire.
I am really looking forward to Plus-sized Misadventures in Love, Let’s Play, and P.A. Works’ Dusk Beyond the End of the World, which is an original show. Fall 2025 might not have anything on the same popularity scale as The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity or My Dress-Up Darling, but it should have both quantity and quality.
