Description

A new social media post is fueling rumors that a new Xenoblade Chronicles entry is currently in development for the recently released Nintendo Switch 2. Following the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in 2022 and the recently released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, fans of the series are eager for more, with a potential fresh entry on the Switch 2 promising improved graphics and performance.

Released for the Wii in Japan in 2010 and North America in 2012, the original Xenoblade Chronicles became one of Nintendo’s most influential RPGs, featuring a blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements in an open world with a real-time action-based battle system. Two sequels followed, with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 launching in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 following in 2022. Now that the Switch 2 is finally on the market, fans of the series are eager for news about its future, and a new rumor indicates that Xenoblade Chronicles 4 may not be a pipe dream after all.

The Xenoblade Chronicles saga is among the best in their genre, but some of the games are simply better than others.

In a new Twitter post, Manami Kiyota, the composer for the Xenoblade series, shared that she is currently hard at work on a new project. While this mystery project could be any number of things, Kiyota’s resume is rather short, with her only game credits outside Xenoblade being 2018’s Smash Ultimate and PokePark Wii, released in 2009. The studio behind the popular RPG series has already gained some experience on Nintendo’s new console, as it was recently confirmed that Monolith Soft assisted in Mario Kart World‘s development. Additionally, in a 2022 interview, series creator Tetsuya Takahashi stated that if another entry in the series ever came to fruition, he would want to make it “vastly different from what came before.”

Curiously, Xenoblade Chronicles almost didn’t get a North American release, according to former Nintendo employees. The original title found incredible success in Japan immediately after its 2010 launch, prompting many online to petition for a Western release. A European launch came a year later, but the action RPG didn’t come to North America until 2012, with positive reception ensuring that future games in the series would come to other regions in a more timely manner.

Fans are hoping to hear confirmation of a new Xenoblade Chronicles title at the rumored July 2025 Nintendo Direct. While the livestream has not yet been confirmed, several insiders claim that it will be held on Thursday, July 31. As the Switch 2 launched with very few first-party titles, players are eager to hear more about what the company has in store for the rest of 2025 and next year.
