Started in 2018, Nintendo Switch Online is a popular subscription service that provides access to multiplayer, cloud saves, and additional features. The service also includes a library of classic Nintendo games, with NES, Super NES, Game Boy, and GBC titles playable by all users, with Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy Advance releases available only in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier. Earlier this year, Nintendo added GameCube titles to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier, which are only available for Switch 2 players.

  • Customizable controls

With the latest update, Nintendo added two important features to SNES games playable via the Nintendo Switch Online service. Now, gamers can use a USB mouse or the Switch 2’s Joy-Con to play using mouse controls, for example. Confirmed compatible titles include Mario Paint (mouse controls only), Mario’s Super Picross, Nobunaga’s Ambition, and others. Another important change is the ability to view and change the controls of SNES games, allowing for more customization, something that gamers have been asking for a while. Different mappings can be saved for each game.

This is just the latest of a few new features introduced to the popular subscription service in recent months. Back in May, Nintendo added some new features to N64 games on the Nintendo Switch Online service. One of them was the ability to change and view controls, which works similarly to the recent changes made to SNES games, and other features were exclusive to the recent Nintendo Switch 2. Among the exclusive features, Nintendo included the ability to rewind gameplay and a CRT monitor filter, which can help these titles to look more like they did in the 90s.

As well as new features, Nintendo continues to add more games to the service, too. Last month, the company included Chibi-Robo in the GameCube lineup of Nintendo Switch Online titles. Apart from Chibi-Robo, four other titles have been made available on the platform: F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Super Mario Strikers. Hopefully, Nintendo will continue to improve its service and increase the availability of new titles and exciting features for gamers.
