Oda Drops A Massive Hint About Shanks’s Devil Fruit Power
Description
This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
One Piece fans know very well that Eiichiro Oda, the author of the story, is doing incredibly well to keep the abilities of the Yonko, Red Haired Shanks, a secret, but now that the story is the Final Saga, Oda is slowly expanding upon the plot surrounding this character. While Shanks’s arsenal of abilities isn’t properly revealed in One Piece yet, fans know very well that he’s a monster, and quite easily the strongest Yonko right now.
Most of his strength seems to come from his majestic Haki, or so Oda would like the fans to believe. However, there could be another ability that Shanks wields, and it could very well be tied to a Devil Fruit power. Most fans don’t like to entertain the idea of Shanks having a Devil Fruit power, but it seems that there is actually a big chance for this to be the case.

When it comes to Devil Fruits, fans know they’re an important ability to have in the world of One Piece. Most powerful fighters in the One Piece world have Devil Fruits, but not everyone requires one to be strong in combat. The fact is that Devil Fruits, despite being strong, can only take one so far. Haki is equally important, and in some cases, even more so.
Don’t cry Luffy. It’s just an arm. I’m glad you’re okay. — Shanks
Shanks has trained his Haki to the absolute fullest and it is quite clear that what little he’s shown is extraordinary. That said, it is now quite clear that there could be more to Shanks than just Haki, given his former connections with the World Government and specifically the Holy Knights.
When Shanks was sailing the seas with Roger, it was quite clear that he relied primarily on Haki. Shanks even copied Roger and Rocks’s fighting style, becoming the only person alive to be able to do so. But things changed when he went back to Marijoa for some reason. Shanks was clearly seen with the mark of the Holy Knights on his arm in the Elbaf arc Flashback, and it was made clear that for a time period, he went back there and lived his life there. Shanks and Shamrock trained together, most likely, and in the end, this is also where Shanks met Shamrock, most likely. Interestingly enough, Shamrock doesn’t seem to have a Devil Fruit either, but his weapon has eaten a Devil Fruit, or is enchanted by Imu. The same logic applies to Shanks.
Yes, he did return to the Holy Land at one point. But it seems he’s grown way too attached to the land below. — Shamrock Figarland
Shanks’s Sword Could Have The Power Of Gryphon
Shamrock Has The Power Of Cerberus
Shanks didn’t have Gryphon with him when he was with Roger. He clearly attained this powerful blade in Marijoa. It seems that there were two blades, Gryphon and Cerberus. As fans know already, Cerberus is wielded by Shamrock Figarland, and it is a special blade that can summon a full-blown awakened Cerberus strong enough to deal deadly damage to enemies even as strong as Loki.
Similarly, Shanks has the Gryphon sword, and there is no reason to doubt that his blade can similarly turn into an actual Gryphon and attack with it. Shanks will never eat a Devil Fruit personally, but using a sword with a Devil Fruit power isn’t out of the equation.
