This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

One Piece’s Elbaf arc has given the fans quite a lot of insight into the most powerful characters of the story, such as Gol D. Roger, and even Rocks D. Xebec, a man whom all the fans of the story wanted to see more of desperately for years now. Finally, Oda showed the fans exactly what Rocks D. Xebec was capable of, and even how he used to fight. Rocks was known to possess tremendous sword attacks.

But, unlike regular sword attacks, his sword never cut. It was almost as if Rocks wielded a hammer because every time Rocks hit his enemies, it was almost as if they got blasted by a blunt object. The impact was absolutely incredible, and this technique was legendary, to say the least. Rocks D. Xebec died, eventually, but now, Oda has revealed who inherited his and Roger’s special technique in One Piece.

Rocks And Roger’s Power Was Inherited By Shanks

When Rocks was introduced properly in the Elbaf arc of One Piece, it became increasingly clear that he was a special fighter. It didn’t take Oda long to explain to the fans how Rocks’s sword attacks worked. The hammer blows that he delivered through his sword were out of this world, strong enough to even tear through the Gates of Justice. However, one thing stood out when Rocks used these techniques. Fans had actually seen another character use this special technique and that person was none other than Roger.

Rayleigh-san, I met a boy in the East Blue and he spoke the exact same words as Captain Roger! — Shanks

Given that Rocks used it even before Roger, it is clear that Rocks was the inventor or, at the very least, the original user of the technique. However, at some point, Roger also ended up learning this technique and he incorporated it into his arsenal. It became Roger’s go-to technique in One Piece, as seen when he used it on Oden.

However, Roger and Rocks aren’t the only users of this power. This special technique has been inherited by a pirate from the current era, and as many would’ve guessed by now, it is none other than Shanks. The red-haired pirate learned this technique by observing Roger before he even hit the age of 15, according to Oda.

The fact is that Rocks’s technique was incredibly unique and it made him the strongest of his era. When Roger had this technique, he, too, was the strongest of his era. Right now, this blunt hammer technique is wielded by none other than Shanks, and given the fact that a single attack from his sword in the style of Rocks was strong enough to defeat a 3 billion pirate and his right-hand man, it is clear that Shanks is the strongest in One Piece at the moment.

His true strength is yet to be seen, but fans will eventually see him fight to the best of his abilities in the Final Saga. Shanks fully deserved to be the strongest pirate in One Piece, and Oda will show the fans exactly why he deserves to be called that.

One Piece’s next chapter will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. The official release date for the next One Piece Chapter is September 14, 2025. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
