This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
One Piece has a rich cast of characters, each of whom has unique traits that make them stand out. With so many impressive characters on display, fans often have a hard time choosing a favorite. A lot of the time, a character’s personality helps fans make a decision.
Edward Newgate, better known as Whitebeard, is among the most popular One Piece characters. There are obviously plenty of reasons to like Whitebeard, and Chapter 1154 gave fans another one.

One Piece: Oda Finally Reveals The True Strength Of Rocks D. Xebec
Oda finally showcases the true power of Rocks D. Xebec. This powerful pirate is a legend through and through.
In One Piece Chapter 1154, Whitebeard arrived in Elbaf along with Rocks D. Xebec, Shiki, and Miss Buckingham Stussy. At the time, they hadn’t formed the Rocks Pirates, but it’s likely that they were in the process of recruiting new people. The first person that they saw was Loki. Shiki was in a humorous mood after seeing Loki, and he even mocked the young Giant’s appearance.
Rocks D. Xebec threatened Loki and asked him to answer both his questions. His demeanor was in line with his callous personality. Only Whitebeard showed any concern and asked Loki why he was crying. The chapter ended with Rocks’ face being revealed for the first time, so it’s unclear how Loki responded to Whitebeard’s question. The latter has always been a gentle soul, who treated everyone equally, no matter their appearance or background. This particular instance where Whitebeard inquired about Loki’s well-being only adds to his legendary status.
While most pirates are considered selfish, Whitebeard was the furthest from it. He always took care of his sons and kept them safe. In fact, other pirates actively avoided harming a member of the Whitebeard Pirates because they didn’t want to earn Whitebeard’s wrath.
Another thing that makes Whitebeard better than Roger and Xebec is that he never sought wealth or fame. The only thing that he truly desired was a family. Another thing to keep in mind is that Whitebeard didn’t want to take the One Piece, even though Roger told him the location.
Whitebeard could have taken over the world with his Gura Gura no Mi, but once again, he gave up on the opportunity because it didn’t align with his personal ambitions. Whitebeard was called the “strongest man in the world” and “King of the Seas.” Both of these titles show how much the world feared Whitebeard’s strength.
In his heyday, Whitebeard was known as the strongest man in the world. If one were to trust the epithet, then Whitebeard was stronger than Roger. Like the latter, he too had access to all three types of Haki. Whitebeard could also use the Advanced versions of Haki. Additionally, his physical abilities were superior to those of regular human beings. Last but not least, Whitebeard had access to the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allowed him to create tremors. With a single punch, Whitebeard could level an island. People who witnessed Whitebeard’s strength knew that he was capable of destroying the entire world.
When it comes to Whitebeard being stronger than Xebec, it’s unlikely that he could overwhelm his captain in combat. After all, it took both Roger and Garp to overwhelm Rocks D. Xebec. Keeping this in mind, it’s highly improbable that Whitebeard could have pulled off the win by himself.
Currently, the One Piece manga is exploring Harald’s flashback, which will help readers better understand the greatest king of Elbaf. The debut of Rocks in the latest chapter means that there will be more interactions between him and the rest of the crew, including Whitebeard.
Many fans assume that Whitebeard was Xebec’s first mate, but that has yet to be confirmed. Hopefully, the upcoming chapters will shed more light on the relationship between Whitebeard and Rocks D. Xebec.
