T For Teen // Blood, Mild Language, Use of Tobacco, Violence
Overwatch 2 has officially revealed the Persona 5 collaboration event, which will include five incredible Legendary skins: Panther Mercy, Queen D.Va, Joker Wuyang, Skull Genji, and Fox Lifeweaver. Complete with in-game challenges, a thematic event hub, and tons of Easter eggs, the Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 crossover is looking pretty cool when it goes live September 16.
Though it did a few crossovers beforehand, Overwatch 2 has had at least one collaboration every season since the Cowboy Bebop event in Season 9. During the trailer for Season 18, Overwatch 2 teased a crossover with Persona 5 that would feature main protagonist Joker as an obtainable skin.
Now that Overwatch 2 Season 18 has been live for a few weeks, it is finally time to officially reveal the collaboration with Persona 5’s Phantom Thieves. From September 16 until September 30, Persona 5 will blast into Overwatch 2 with five Legendary skins that will steal the hearts of players who purchase them from the in-game store. Genji equips a lead pipe as Ryuji “Skull” Sakamoto, while Mercy dons the rose-adorned mantle of Ann Tamaki’s Panther. D.Va becomes Makoto Niijima, A.K.A. “Queen”, while Lifeweaver is dressed as Ren “Fox” Amamiya. New Season 18 hero Wuyang headlines as Joker himself, marking the shortest time between a character’s release and the appearance of a collaboration skin.
Hidden throughout these skins, Persona 5 fans will find references to the characters’ Personas as well. Mercy’s weapon and wings are inspired by Panther’s Carmen, Wuyang’s Xuanwu Staff was designed to evoke Arsene, and D.Va’s mech is a unique take on Queen’s motorcycle, Johanna. What’s more, the characters leave subtle paint splashes when they move – a reference to the iconic art style of Persona 5.
Beyond the skins, players should keep an eye out for some other Persona 5 Easter eggs as well. The collaboration will feature a unique event hub that uses Persona 5’s signature UI elements, and fans may find the entrance to “a very familiar location” – ostensibly the Velvet Room – hidden in various maps. The key art for the collab was also designed by Persona 5 character artist and illustrator Shigenori Soejima.
The Persona 5 event, along with its in-game challenges and rewards, go live on September 16 alongside the mid-Season 18 update. Players can expect a new batch of hero balance adjustments, along with the debut of Tracer in Overwatch 2 Stadium, in this big update.
