Every year, Niantic hosts a themed event in Pokemon GO called Adventure Week, which primarily focuses on Rock-type Pokemon. Adventure Weeks were initially introduced in 2017, a year after Pokemon GO‘s release, and they have since been held regularly each summer. In the first of Pokemon GO‘s Adventure Weeks, several Rock-type Pokemon, such as Omastar, Kabutops, and Aerodactyl, were given increased spawn rates, and a few new avatar items were added to the game, as well. The later iterations of the event, meanwhile, have been considerably larger in scale. Pokemon GO‘s more recent Adventure Weeks have not only introduced Shiny variations of Pokemon that were already in the game, but also completely new Pokemon.
Niantic did not host an Adventure Week event in 2020 and 2021, presumably due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the previous Adventure Weeks have also lasted longer than a single week.
Niantic confirmed a few days ago that it will be hosting yet another Adventure Week in Pokemon GO this year. The event, which will be part of the ongoing Delightful Days season, is going to take place from July 29 to August 3, just a few weeks before the final part of Pokemon GO Fest 2025 goes live. As usual, Adventure Week 2025 will feature increased spawn rates for certain Pokemon, some of which are Rock-types. However, it will also introduce a handful of new Pokemon and Pokemon variants that are arguably among the most unique in the entire Pokemon franchise.

Pokemon GO’s Water Festival finally brings half of Scarlet and Violet’s powerful duo to the game, but there’s a catch when it comes to catching it.
Toedscool and Toedscruel, two Ground/Grass-type Pokemon that were originally introduced in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, are going to make their Pokemon GO debuts during the Adventure Week later this month. These two Pokemon, as their names imply, are directly related to each other. A Toedscool can, after all, evolve into a Toedscruel after being fed 50 Toedscool Candies. Despite bearing a strong resemblance to them, though, there are two Gen 1 Water-type Pokemon that Toedscool and Toedscruel are not entirely related to: Tentacool and Tentacruel.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Game Freak introduced a new subset of special Pokemon that look very similar to other Pokemon, even though they don’t share any evolution lines. These are called ecologically similar Pokemon (a.k.a. “regional fakes”), and in spite of the fact that they appear to be regional variants of existing Pokemon, they are completely different species. There are currently only three groups of ecologically similar Pokemon, and Toedscool and Toedscruel comprise one of them. Like Tentacool and Tentacruel, these two Pokemon have a similar jellyfish-like design and shape, but they live on land instead of the ocean, drawing their coincidental design from mushrooms instead.
As if Toedscool and Toedscruel weren’t exciting enough, this year’s Adventure Week is going to feature two other ecologically similar Pokemon, as well. Later this month, Pokemon GO players will be able to encounter Shiny variants of Wiglett and its direct evolution, Wugtrio, when exploring their nearby environments. These Garden Eel Pokemon, as they’re officially called, have technically been available in Pokemon GO since April 2024, but this is the first time that their Shiny variants will ever be present in the game.
Wiglett and Wugtrio, for those who don’t know, are ecologically similar to Diglett and Dugtrio, two other Gen 1 Pokemon. Despite looking physically similar, Wiglett and Wugtrio live underwater and are Water-type Pokemon, while Diglett and Dugtrio are classified as Ground-type Mole Pokemon. Although Diglett and Dugtrio aren’t going to be featured in Pokemon GO‘s adventure week this year (neither are Tentacool and Tentacruel), their eel-esque counterparts won’t be hard to come across. According to Niantic, players who visit beaches and bodies of water will be able to encounter Wiglett and its Shiny variant more frequently during Adventure Week. Sadly, however, Toedscool is not going to receive an increased spawn rate, so Pokemon GO fans will have to do a bit of exploring to find it.
