PS Plus Games for July, August 2025 Could be the Gifts that Keep On Giving
Description
The latest PlayStation Plus games for August have just become available. This month’s offerings for Essential include DayZ, Lies of P, and My Hero: One’s Justice 2, and subscribers have until September 2 to grab them for their collections. While all are good choices, one has generally stood out over the others, with that being Lies of P. Released in 2023, developer Neowiz’s dark Gothic take on the tale of Pinocchio filtered through a strong Soulslike design was hailed as an excellent entry in the genre and widely embraced by PS members when it was announced.
And before Lies of P, another highly popular title was included on PlayStation Plus Extra in July: Cyberpunk 2077. The two also share a common element that, should Sony so choose to, could bring about a big change in the service’s strategy and greatly strengthen the draw and appeal of PS Plus games similar to them in the future.
PlayStation Plus Considering Giving Out Major DLCs for Two of July and August’s Biggest Games Could Be a Winning Move
Cyberpunk 2077 and Lies of P Are Some of PS Plus’ Best Offerings in Recent Memory
Lies of P being added to August’s PS Plus library was nearly universally praised by players and members. As one of the most recent well-received and unique Soulslike games, Lies of P hitting PlayStation Plus was a somewhat surprising but wholeheartedly welcome move. It also just so happened that the title’s first major piece of DLC, Overture, dropped earlier in June. Overture gave fans more of Krat to explore and challenged them with some fantastic all-new bosses along the way, delivering a satisfying expansion that built well upon the base game’s foundations.
Previously, Cyberpunk 2077 was added to PS Plus on the Extra tier back in July, which also closely coincided with its latest (and similarly somewhat unexpected) 2.3 update that added further polish and some solid new features, like more side gigs, vehicles, and an auto-drive option as well as an expanded photo mode. And although Cyberpunk 2077‘s own celebrated DLC, Phantom Liberty, was originally released in 2023, it remains one of the most recognized and highly-rated ones. The larger point is that, with both of these titles being made available, it makes a strong case for Sony to potentially consider adding their equally excellent DLCs to the catalog in order to make the experiences more complete and offer additional value for PS Plus members.
PlayStation Plus Potentially Including Major DLCs Would Add a Whole New Dimension
PlayStation Plus has been shaking things up a bit in the past couple of months. Some of this has likely been due to Sony celebrating 15 years of the service by giving out additional freebies and offering more promotional deals than usual. In addition, the last two previous announcements for PS Plus’ games came a little earlier, a few hours in July’s case and an entire day in August’s. Though this may have only been a passing exception due to the anniversary, it does open the door to more shifts in the service of this manner down the line.
Another consideration is that perceptions have often skewed towards Xbox Game Pass “winning” the battle between the two major subscriptions in recent times, though the gap isn’t as wide as it perhaps used to be. Both companies have also generally been seen to be bringing what would’ve previously been exclusives to the other’s platform, as is the case with Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox and the upcoming Gears of War: Reloaded launching day one concurrently on PS.
In light of the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 and Lies of P were added to PS Plus back-to-back, giving players their respective and heralded DLCs next, even if this might be limited to the more costly but expansive Extra or Premium tier inclusions, would likely generate goodwill for Sony. It could also incentivize current members to upgrade while enticing others who may be on the fence to consider signing up for the service in order to take full advantage of it.
