Resident Evil 7: Biohazard could be announced for Switch 2 this week during a potential Nintendo Direct, according to two industry sources on social media. While a Switch 2 port of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo or Capcom, the latest rumor aligns with another one that stated an upcoming Nintendo Direct could feature “three sevens” throughout the broadcast.

Originally released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in January 2017, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first of two titles that feature Ethan Winters as the lead protagonist. RE7 was also the first Resident Evil title to be exclusively in first-person mode and was the debut title for Capcom’s RE Engine, which continues to be utilized in games like Monster Hunter Wilds and the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard received a port to the original Switch as a cloud-based version, which was released in 2018 in Japan and worldwide in 2022. The cloud edition of RE7 was made as a workaround for the Switch’s hardware limitations.
Though all rumors must be taken with a grain of salt, two industry sources stated that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard could soon be announced for another platform. On Twitter, gaming industry leaker Nash Weedle corroborated a statement by content creator Attack The Backlog, both of whom hinted that Capcom would show off a horror title in a potential Nintendo Direct that has been rumored to air in September. Nash Weedle quoted RE7 antagonist Eveline, who told Ethan to “stay away” during a segment of the game that requires players to block her attacks. The initial post by Attack The Backlog, which was quoted by Nash Weedle, was in turn a hint toward another rumor concerning the potential September Nintendo Direct episode.
On September 6, another content creator, SwitchForce, stated that a rumored Nintendo Direct episode could air on Friday, September 12, and said that it would feature “three sevens” throughout the show. While the upcoming Switch 2 ports of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and 007 First Light are games that feature the number seven, the same logic could apply to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard if it were announced for the Switch 2.
