Wuthering Waves fans are worried about the game and its future characters, as some are concerned and sad about certain characters being too dependent on certain setups to excel. These concerns were voiced by fans shortly after the release of the Version 2.5 update for Wuthering Waves, titled “Unfading Melody of Life.”
Wuthering Waves Version 2.5 was released on July 24 and added a slew of new content, including Chapter II Act VII of the main story, the new Fabricatorium of the Deep location, and the new playable Resonator Phrolova. The update also brought some requested changes and optimizations, including the ability to set up “Auto-Lock” or “Auto-Discard” plans in the Data Bank, a new Sync Tuning option for Echo Upgrades, and the ability to have up to 10 preset teams. Like previous Wuthering Waves updates, Version 2.5 will also host a number of special limited-time events throughout its duration. However, the update’s release has not been entirely positive, as some Wuthering Waves players are worried about how developer Kuro Games may be developing and preparing the game’s new playable characters.

Reddit user Devo-S-Kare and other Wuthering Waves players are concerned and saddened about the overall gameplay design of playable characters. Specifically, Devo-S-Kare is worried about characters being designed for overly specific requirements, such as partner setups with a prominently featured character like Cantarella. The user notes that Wuthering Waves Version 2.5’s Phrolova appears to be reliant on Cantarella due to Echo synergy, making Phrolova act like a support or sub-DPS character.
Wuthering Waves Players are Worried About Future Characters Needing Overly Specific Team Setups and Gear
Devo-S-Kare and others in the Wuthering Waves community are also worried about characters’ overreliance on signature weapons, which some believe are a “must pull” for newly released characters. While some weapons offer a 20-30% uplift on a character’s stats and overall performance, Devo-S-Kare believes weapons grant a clear and decisive advantage of upwards of 40%, which makes some players want to pull on signature weapons to get the best possible performance from a character. Echo sets seem to have a similar effect, as there are entire sets that are clearly better than others with no room for experimentation without needing to downgrade to less powerful and effective Echoes.
Many fans in the Wuthering Waves community are grateful that constructive criticism of the game is being presented, and some fans have offered some suggestions about what could be beneficial going forward. Some fans would like more powerful 4-star characters in Wuthering Waves to give players more options for team setups, and others would like ability buffs to simulate a “power creep” in the meta without being overly detrimental.
