Description

While the spooky season doesn’t officially begin until October, September 2025 is already shaping up to be a big one for fans of the horror genre. There are at least four high-profile new horror games releasing throughout the month, ensuring that genre fans have plenty of exciting new games to play in the weeks ahead.

As far as horror games go, 2025 has not had much for fans to sink their teeth into. Looking through the list of highest-rated new game releases of the year, only a couple fit the horror genre, and while some solid indie horror experiences have hit the market, big-budget releases are virtually nonexistent. All things considered, 2025 hasn’t been the strongest year for the horror genre, but that’s going to change in the very near future.

While games could always get pushed back, as it stands, September 2025 is currently stacked with four brand-new horror game releases spread throughout the month. First up is Bad Cheese on September 1, a first-person psychological horror game with an art style inspired by 1920s cartoons. Think Steamboat Willy, but horror. In it, players take control of a cartoon mouse who lives in a creepy house with their “dysfunctional” dad, and must complete chores to appease him, all the while encountering horrific monstrosities. Then, on September 5, horror game fans can check out Cronos: The New Dawn, a sci-fi horror game from Silent Hill 2 remake developer Bloober Team. Cronos: The New Dawn has serious Dead Space vibes and its unique time travel concept has been turning heads since the game was first revealed.

New Horror Games Releasing Soon

  • Bad Cheese – September 1
  • Cronos: The New Dawn – September 5
  • Dying Light: The Beast – September 19
  • Silent Hill f – September 25

On September 19, horror game fans can look forward to playing Dying Light: The Beast. Dying Light: The Beast brings back fan-favorite protagonist Kyle Crane and lets players loose in an open world filled with zombies. About a week later, Silent Hill f will hit the scene on September 25, giving fans the chance to experience the franchise’s first completely new, full-length game in over a decade. Silent Hill f‘s Japan setting and new combat system will ensure that it breaks new ground, though time will tell how fans will react to the final product.

It seems most of the new horror games for the second-half of 2025 are releasing in September, but that’s not to say October is completely barren. In fact, there are a few horror games lined up for release that month, with the most exciting for most fans likely being the co-op Little Nightmares 3 on October 10. Genre fans can also mark their calendars for Tormented Souls 2 on October 23 and Ire: A Prologue on October 28.
