My Hero Academia has become a sensational series that has dominated the anime community since its first season was released. The story of Izuku Midoriya has been a wild ride of tragedy, determination, and Bravery as Izuku goes from a quirkless young boy to the world’s number one hero.
The world of My Hero Academia has produced dozens of memorable characters that have left a lasting impression on viewers. With every season, fans watch as backstories are explored, motivations are made clear, and stories come to their conclusion. While there are many characters that are given a lot of detail, some leave fans wanting more. Here are some My Hero Academia characters who deserved more attention.
Midnight
The Hero Who Made The Ultimate Sacrifice
Midnight was not as prominent a figure in My Hero Academia compared to Eraser Head and Present Mic, who were frequently featured throughout the series and even received a small arc of their own. Midnight made scarce appearances but, overall, was never fully explored as a character, even in her final moments.
Quite to the contrary, Midnight was an incredibly capable and charismatic hero, who could incapacitate targets without violence and who demonstrated incredible physical athleticism. There seemed to be inspirations from Catwoman and Poison Ivy from DC Comics, and it would have been nice for a bit more light to be shed on her character.
Gale Force
The Perfect Rival For Todoroki
Gale Force debuted during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc and was shown to harbor intense emotions toward Todoroki Shoto. The two engaged in a short-lived and mostly one-sided rivalry, but Gale Force made a significant impact, which led some fans to believe he would have a more prominent role. Unfortunately, after Gale Force and Todoroki’s punishment for losing sight of their goal during the exam, Gale Force did not make many appearances. His boastful nature and powerful weather quirk would have been a great addition to the cast, perhaps as a transfer student or a member of Endeavor’s work study instead of Bakugo, to explore his and Todoroki’s tension.
Doctor Garaki
The Sinister Quirk Stealer
Doctor Garaki is perhaps one of the most sinister characters in My Hero Academia, even more so than the Demon King himself, All For One. The Doctor was depicted as a loyal henchman and scientist for All For One, but he posed a much greater threat due to his intellect and nefarious acts.
Doctor Garaki created technology to transfer and implant stolen quirks into new individuals, which led him to make the Nomu. While his secret experiments weren’t discovered until later in the series, a deeper look into the heinous acts he committed would have been a great touch to upplay how much of a villain he was. Perhaps in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, fans will gain more insight into the character and his victims.
Nejire Chan
The Big Three Member That Needed More Spotlight
Nejire Chan debuted alongside the other members of the big three, Lemillion, and Suneater. As the big three, they stood among the best and brightest students in UA Academy who would quickly rise to the top ranks once they graduated and became pro heroes.
While Lemillon’s arc was sculpted to make him the successor of All Might, and Suneater was a timid and shy young man, Nejire was portrayed as a kindhearted and enthusiastic young girl who had overcome relentless bullying. Skilled, intelligent, and vibrant would have been a great character to develop further throughout the series.
Kurogiri
The Tragic Underling Of Shiguraki
Kuroki was a character who started off as a transportation henchman for Shiguraki and the League of Villains, but whose story evolved into a deeply tragic tale intertwined with two fan-favorite characters in the My Hero Academia series.
It was revealed that Kurogi was a modified individual who was implanted with a quirk, whose original form was the hero Loud Cloud, a close friend of Eraser Head and Present Mic. While there was a resolution, a more in-depth story that found some remnants of Loud Cloud and possibly turned him against All For One would have provided a more emotional arc.
Nana Shiguraki
All Might’s Predecessor
Nana Shiguraki was a pivotal character in My Hero Academia, not only as the predecessor and mentor of All Might, but also a former wielder of One For All and the grandmother of the Main antagonist, Tomura Shiguraki.
Her position in the series is one of great shame and tragedy, the anime focuses on the decisions she made at the cost of her family and the consequences she faces. However, also looking into the good she did and the lives she saved would have been a refreshing addition to her backstory and recurring appearances.
Star And Stripe
One Of The Most Overpowered Heroes Gone Too Soon
Star and Stripe exploded onto the scene as a hero from the United States, and the last line of defense against Shiguraki, whose threat level was constantly rising. Star and Stripe was a massive woman who was said to rival All Might with a quirk that could rewrite the rules of physics.
With incredible strength and power, many fans saw Star and Stripe as the last hope and were quite surprised by her ending. Leaving such a lasting impression in such a short amount of time, Star and Stripe definitely deserved more screen time earlier on in the series, exploring her history with All Might or even her efforts during the Quirk War.
Overhaul
Met Too Quick An End As The Big Bad Evil Guy
Overhaul served as the main antagonist of the Shie Hassakai Arc in season three of My Hero Academia. He was the young and ruthless leader of an influential Yakuza group who had created a dangerous concoction that could erase quirks permanently by harnessing the quirk of his little sister.
Overhaul had been built up considerably, and he was a detestable psychopath who would stop at nothing to achieve his goal, making him one of the most menacing villains in the series. Unfortunately, he was defeated quickly and taken out of the equation entirely by Shiguraki, who decayed his hands, thereby making his quirk useless. Many fans wish that Overhaul had played a larger role in the final war arc, or that he had even replaced the Meta Liberation Army.
