Stardew Valley developer ConcernedApe shared some major news about the recently-announced Switch 2 Edition of the beloved farming sim, with fans who already own the Switch version not needing to pay extra. The massively popular farming sim has been credited as one of the most influential modern games for the genre, helping to usher in the boom of indie farming sims throughout recent years. Solo developer ConcernedApe has consistently pushed new content to Stardew Valley since its debut, with the game celebrating its tenth anniversary next year. Now, fans are getting another new way to play the game.
During September’s Nintendo Direct showcase, Nintendo and ConcernedApe revealed that Stardew Valley will be receiving a Switch 2 Edition with several upgrades for the new Nintendo console. Stardew Valley‘s Switch 2 Edition will add mouse support with the JoyCon 2, offering a closer experience to the game’s PC version for fans on Switch 2. The Switch 2 Edition of Stardew Valley will also support up to four-player split-screen co-op gameplay with just one copy using the GameShare feature. A new update is now adding another nice incentive for fans who already own the game.
Stardew Valley developer ConcernedApe has officially confirmed a major detail about the farming sim’s upcoming Switch 2 Edition release. The developer revealed that the Switch 2 Edition will be a free upgrade for most fans who already own the Nintendo Switch version of Stardew Valley, with no additional upgrade fee required. ConcernedApe did confirm that Japanese versions would need to pay a small fee per Japanese law, though he stated that it would cost the minimal amount allowable on the eShop. The Switch 2 Edition of Stardew Valley is expected to launch sometime during Fall 2025.
Stardew Valley Switch 2 Edition Is Free for Switch Version Owners
Stardew Valley‘s updated Switch 2 version arrives not long after ConcernedApe made a major announcement about the game’s future. The developer officially revealed that the next update for Stardew Valley is already in the works, with the game launching its big 1.6 update early last year. The reveal followed discussion about ConcernedApe potentially delaying any future updates in order to focus more on his second major game release, Haunted Chocolatier. ConcernedApe has not yet confirmed any new content that will be coming with the 1.7 update.
The monumental success of Stardew Valley has transformed ConcernedApe into one of the most iconic faces of the indie gaming scene. The recently-released Hollow Knight: Silksong featured ConcernedApe listed under “Additional Character Voices,” with the Stardew Valley creator lending his voice to the highly-anticipated indie game. ConcernedApe was also linked earlier this year to efforts to revive the canceled Hytale, following its cancellation by Hypixel Studios. With the Switch 2 Edition and another major update on the way, Stardew Valley shows no signs of slowing down as the game approaches its tenth birthday.
