The newly-announced Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will cost fans a pretty penny, with the pair of re-releases retailing for the same price as brand-new games. The September 2025 Nintendo Direct brought plenty of exciting news for fans of the Super Mario franchise to kick off the iconic series’ 40th anniversary. Nintendo officially announced the new Super Mario Galaxy movie during the presentation, alongside several new games like Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and Mario Tennis Fever. However, one particular announcement is bringing back some of the franchise’s most beloved games.
Nintendo officially announced during the livestream that the Super Mario Galaxy games will be getting a new re-release to commemorate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will bring the pair of interstellar Mario games to the Switch, available as both as a compilation and separate digital games. Super Mario Galaxy previously featured in the limited run of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 will see its first release outside the Wii. Now, fans will reportedly be paying a premium for the beloved Mario adventures.
As reported by VGC, the reveal for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 also came with news about the compilation’s price. The Switch compilation of Super Mario Galaxy games will retail for the same price as most brand-new games on the Switch 2, selling for $70 USD instead of the Switch’s typical $60 price point. The pair of Super Mario Galaxy games will also each be available as a separate digital-only purchase, with both marked at $40 to buy just one of the Galaxy games. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is scheduled to release on October 2.

Super Mario Galaxy fans will also have the option to change the games’ controls, using either the original motion controls or a purely button-and-stick control scheme.
Super Mario fans should have lots to be excited about beyond the suite of Super Mario Galaxy-themed announcements. Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, adding the Meetup in Bellabel Park expansion with lots of multiplayer-focused content. The developer also dropped a major surprise reveal for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, planning to add Virtual Boy games and a physical Virtual Boy accessory to the online service.
