The first patch for Techland’s Dying Light: The Beast has been released, addressing a couple of issues that players have been experiencing since the game launched on September 18. Dying Light: The Beast was originally intended to be a DLC expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human but ended up growing into a full standalone game in the popular post-apocalyptic first-person survival horror franchise.
Fans of the zombie-filled series were so excited to play the game that it reached more than one million pre-orders, leading Techland to release Dying Light: The Beast a day early. Additionally, those who grabbed their copy before launch would be rewarded with a special bonus, the APEX car skin, a Volatile-themed vehicle cosmetic with a glow-in-the-dark design. This was in addition to the “Hero of Harran” pre-order bonus bundle that includes the Harran Combat Knife, In Jade’s Memory Pistol, The Follower Crossbow, Castor Woods Patrol vehicle skin, and the Ultimate Survivor Outfit.
Dying Light: The Beast Releases Hotfix 1.2.1
On September 22, the developer released the first patch for the game, hotfix 1.2.1. Some players had been experiencing issues with Dying Light: The Beast‘s Indoor Rain and Disturbed Day/Night Cycle, both of which have now been fixed. These bugs only occurred in rare situations, so most people won’t have seen them while parkouring their way to a final encounter with the Baron. Techland also used the hotfix to add the APEX car skin for those who pre-ordered the game, and it can be found in the player stash.
Famously, Techland promised five years of post-launch support, updates, and content for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and fans are hoping they have something similar in mind for its follow-up. Dying Light: The Beast has become the best-reviewed game in the series, currently sporting an 82 critic average on OpenCritic. Not only does it reintroduce players to original protagonist Kyle Crane, but it polishes up the parkour that is a central gameplay mechanic and delivers on the tension that players have come to expect from the zombie-infested franchise.
The developers at Techland also already have ideas in mind for a fourth game in the Dying Light series, which has fans of The Beast excited, both newcomers and veterans alike. Of course, for now, the team’s focus is on its latest release, as well as providing content and updates for Stay Human through 2027 as promised. But for now, it seems that the series that began in 2015 by the team behind Dead Island has an ambitious future ahead.
