The Order of Giants Should Bring Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Back Into Game Awards Conversations
Description
It might feel as though 2025 started just a few weeks ago, but we’re already deep into September, and that means Game Awards conversations are just a few short months away. One of the most high-profile annual events in the gaming industry, Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards are the ultimate celebration of the year’s most innovative and revered titles, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle still deserves a spot on that list.
With some great puzzles, weighty combat, a riveting narrative, and some stellar performances, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is certainly Game Awards material. And while it may have fallen out of the gaming zeitgeist a long time ago, its recently released The Order of Giants DLC should remind players just how deserving the game is of widespread recognition.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Just Missed Out on Last Year’s Game Awards
When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle released back on December 9, 2024, it was accompanied by a wave of very positive reviews. The game currently sits at an 87 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic, with 95% of critics recommending it. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was also met with a very warm reception from fans, with it sitting at a 90 Player Rating on OpenCritic.
Unfortunately, despite its critical success, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was ineligible for the 2024 Game Awards, as the cutoff date for nominations is November 15. But that does mean that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could be considered for this year’s Game Awards.
Though Indiana Jones and the Great Circle couldn’t be nominated, it did have a memorable showing at the Game Awards ceremony itself, with Troy Baker and Harrison Ford joining Geoff Keighley on stage to talk about Baker’s stunning performance as Ford’s iconic silver screen character.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s DLC Could Put It Back in Game Awards Conversations
The 2025 Game Awards Is Already Shaping Up To Be a Tight Race
2025 has already seen more than its fair share of critically acclaimed video game releases, some of which are practically guaranteed to appear at this year’s Game Awards. The likely frontrunners for Game of the Year 2025 are currently Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, Donkey Kong Bananza, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
There are also a ton of other great 2025 games that might not be nominated for Game of the Year, but could easily appear in other categories. Doom: The Dark Ages has a strong chance of being nominated for Best Action, The Alters could show up in the Best Narrative category, and Split Fiction deserves a nomination for Best Multiplayer, just to name a few.
The Order of Giants Should Get Indy Back In The Running
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle‘s The Order of Giants DLC is only around 3–4 hours long, so there’s not really enough meat on the bones for it to earn its own nominations at this year’s Game Awards, though DLC is technically eligible. That said, The Order of Giants should reignite the conversation around the base game deserving its flowers at this year’s Game Awards.
While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle may not be quite as acclaimed as Hollow Knight: Silksong or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, there are plenty of Game Awards categories it still deserves to appear in at the end of the year.
Troy Baker’s pitch-perfect performance as the eponymous adventurer certainly deserves official recognition at this year’s Game Awards, and arguably the game’s narrative deserves a nomination too. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could even be deserving of a Best Action/Adventure nomination, with it fitting the official description (a game “combining combat with traversal and puzzle solving”) to a T.
